Hurt

Wednesday: 11:45 am

Ariana's POV

Me and Sean are just about to finish up when I get a phone call from Mackenzie's teacher.

"Hello?"

"Hey Ariana. I know school's almost over in like, 15 minutes but you need to come pick up Mackenzie, now."

"Why, what's wrong?"

"She fell off of a swing while playing on the playground and hit her head. She's in the nurses office right now. Karmani and Oliver are there too but I needed to let you know."

"OMG, thanks. I'll be there soon."

"Sean, we need to go. Now. Mackenzie's hurt."

"Oh wow. I'll call Taylor, but let's go." We run outside and get in Sean's car.

15 Minutes Later

We arrive at the school to parents coming to pick up little pre-schoolers and kindergarteners.

"Hi, I'm here for Mackenzie Grande. Her teacher said she was in the nurses office, where is that?"

"Right over here. Follow me." We go through 2 doors in the office to finally arrive in the nurses office.

"Ari!" Oliver says.

"Mackenzie! Will someone explain to me what happened?"

"Oh, yeah. That's me. We were out having research with the kids and Mackenzie was on a big person swing. She promised me she's done it before by herself so I let her do it but I stayed by her until a little boy skinned his knee."

"So you left her?"

"Yeah, I'm sorry. I turned my back for 5 seconds then I heard a scream. I turned around and Mackenzie was laying on the ground on her back with her classmates watching her. I'm really sorry."

"It's ok. We're gonna take her to the hospital. Can you check Karmani and Oliver out?"

"Sure. Again, I'm sorry. Hopefully she gets better soon."

Hospital: 1:30 pm

We arrive at the pediatric unit of the hospital and I pick up Mackenzie.

"Can you help? She fell on her head." A nurse calls for a stretcher and a doctor comes out of the double doors pushing a mini one.

"Let me see her." The nurse takes her and places her on the stretcher and they rush through the doors, me following them.

In her hospital room, doctors and nurses come in and out, trying to figure out what's happening.

2:00 pm

"Ariana, Sean. Please come here. Leave the kids." Me and strangest up from the waiting room chairs, leaving Karmani and Oliver to play since Taylor hasn't come to pick them up yet.

"Mackenzie is doing well right now, she's gotten better in the 2 hours you've been here, but I'm sorry to tell you, she's in a coma."

"No, no, no. Sean, no! She can't be!"

"Ariana, calm down. I don't want you having another panic attack."

"But Mackenzie, where's Taylor? She needs to know now!"

"I'll call her. Just go sit with her. We all know she's can and will wake up."

"I know. Please hurry."

"Mackenzie, please wake up. I need you to wake up, baby girl. We have had you for almost 5 years, Kenzie. Please wake up. Please, please, please."

Taylor's POV

I'm watching Spongebob with Jordan and the twins, although Jordan's asleep and the twins are playing a game, when I get a phone call from Sean.

"Hello?"

"Hey. How are you?"

"I'm good. How's Kenzie?"

"Thats what I called to tell you about. Taylor, I'm so sorry. Mackenzie's in a coma." Shock runs through me and I drop my phone.

"Taylor? Taylor? What happened to you?" I hear Sean yell through the phone but I can't respond as I'm frozen in place.

Alyson looks up and stares at me.

"Taylor?" She says uncertainly.

"Alyson, is that you?" Sean says.

"Yeah, daddy. Why's Taylor not doing anything?"

"Sweetie, I need you to hang up the phone and get Taylor to come to the pediatric unit of the hospital. Can you do that for me?"

"Ok daddy." I watch her get off of the couch and hang up my phone then come to shake me.

"Taylor, daddy says to come to the pediatic unit of the hospital. I think that's what it's called."

I try to move and it works.

"Ok, go get your shoes on. Kaylee, you go too. Don't forget your tablet charger." They both run off and I put my sandals on.

"Come on, J." I pick her up and she lays her head on my shoulder.

After putting her uggs on, the twins come back downstairs and I remember someone else in the house.

"OMG, Jaidon. Gosh, how could I forget you when you're literally right in front of me?" I go back in the living room and pick him up.

He's asleep too so I carefully lift him out of the crib and go back to the entryway.

"Does he look alright?" I ask Kaylee.

"Yeah, I like his jungle onesie and black socks. It's cutie patootie."

"Ok, good. Aly, can you grab that bag right there?" It's Jaidon's diaper bag with his name on it.

"Yeah." She lifts the bag and we finally leave the house.

Hospital

We arrive at the hospital and everyone gets out. After putting Jaidon and Jordan in the 2-baby stroller, we walk in to Sean pacing.

"Daddy!" Alyson and Kaylee yell.

"Hey girls. Go play with Karmani and Oliver."

I leave the stroller next to Sean and walk past the double doors to look for Mackenzie's room. I find a door marked Mackenzie Grande and walk in.

"Taylor!" Ariana says, getting off of her chair and coming to hug me.

"Mackenzie, no. Please, no. Please, no. No, no, no. No!"

"Taylor, calm down. Sit and calm down." I sit in Ariana's chair and cover my face with my hands to cry.

"Mackenzie, please, please, please wake up. I know you're strong. You've made it through being adopted and breaking your arm, all at such a young age. I know you can do this. Please, make it quick."

Mackenzie's POV

I hear Ariana and Taylor calling my name. I don't know what's happening but I can't open my eyes and I can't talk. I can't do anything. I can't cry because that's what I want to do. I want to cry for help because I know it'll come.
