The Storm

Monday: 6:30 am

Taylor's POV

I wake up, my arm around both Mackenzie and Jordan. I look at the clock and remember that Mackenzie has school.

"Kenz, wake up. School today, hun." She grunts and turns away.

"Come on, Kenzie. Get up." I get out of bed, not to the liking of Jordan.

She whines and grabs my arm, her eyes still closed. I pick her up and she lays her head on my shoulder.

"Come on, Kenzie." She climbs out of the bed and takes my hand as we walk down the hall to her room.

"What are you doing up?" Ariana says sleepily, poking her head through her bedroom door.

"Getting Mackenzie ready for school. Why aren't you getting Oliver ready?" I yawn.

"Taylor, they don't have school. There is a serious flood outside, don't you hear the rain?" She says, annoyed.

"No, Ariana, are you playing with me."

"No, I'm serious. Go look outside." I roll my eyes and take Jordan and Mackenzie downstairs.

I open the door and am hit by a strong gust of wind. Jordan immediately wakes up, putting her hands to the blowing wind. The ground is covered with water, at least 2 feet.

"Taylor, close the door!" Jordan screams.

I'm knocked back to reality by her voice snd I slam the resisting door shut.

"I'm c-cold." She says.

I take Mackenzie's hand again and we go back to my room. I actually look out the window and see trees blowing wildly in the wind. Water rushes down the street like waves crashing onto a beach.

"Taylor, I'm scared." Jordan says, clinging onto my arm like a monkey to a branch.

"Come on, you're sleeping with your parents." I carry her to Ariana and Sean's room and place her in the middle of their bed.

"Hey baby girl, what's wrong?" Sean says, wrapping his arm around his little girl.

"I'm scared." She whines.

Her mother turns over and kisses the child on the head. I leave the room and close the door, walking back to my room where Mackenzie has fallen fast asleep.

I climb in bed next to her and fall instantly asleep.

9:00 am

I wake up again, Mackenzie sleeping soundly beside me. I get out of bed and look out to window. The water has risen at least half a foot, and is now coming over the curb. It has at least 1-3 feet until it hits our yard, and about another 7 feet until it hits our house.

I go downstairs where Ariana, Sean, and Jordan are sitting on the couch, watching the news.

"Severe flash flooding near the Beverly Hills area. Expecting at least 3-6 feet of water. This is not a hurricane, I repeat, this is not a hurricane. This is a severe flash flood, and should be over within the next couple of days to hours." The news reporter says.

"Oh good morning, sunshine." Ariana says.

"Daddy, are we gonna die?" Jordan asks out of nowhere.

"No, Jordan. Of course not, we'll be fine." He answers, changing the channel to Dora as Ariana goes to the kitchen.

I take a seat on one of the other couches as Kaylee and Alyson come downstairs.

"Do you guys like wake the other up when one is awake? You always seem to come downstairs at the same time." I ask but they ignore me and take a seat, Alyson turning on their tablet as they choose a movie to watch on Netflix.

Sean gets up and goes to the kitchen as Karmani, Oliver, and Mackenzie come down. Jordan changes the channel to Spongebob when my phone rings. I roll my eyes when I see the Caller ID

"J, answer this." I give her my phone and she puts it on speaker.

"Hello?"

"Hey, Jordan?" Cameron says.

"Hi."

"Where's Taylor?"

"Minding her own business, like you should be."

"I can't stand you." He chuckles.

"Then sit, nobody asked you to stand." She replies.

"Fine. Just, tell Taylor I said hi."

"Whatever." Jordan hangs up and throws me my phone.

"Thanks. I'm gonna go make sure your parents aren't making anymore of you on the kitchen counter."

"How does that happen?"

"You're to young to know. Just watch Spongebob." She sighs but turns around to face the TV.

I walk in the kitchen, and surprisingly, Ariana and Sean are just making out by the sink.

"Oh thank god." I say, causing Ariana to pull away.

"Taylor, you scared me." She says, going back to the stove to continue making pancakes.

"I should really slap you right now." Sean says, sounding annoyed.

Right then, a flying branch hits the power lines and everything in the house goes off. I hear screams from the living room and we run to the kids.

Jordan's having a crying/screaming fest on the couch, Kaylee and Alyson are staring into space, and everyone else is sitting on the couches doing nothing. There's a loud boom of thunder and Jordan screams louder, causing Jaidon to start crying upstairs.

Ariana rushes to Jaidon with his inhaler while Sean picks up Jordan. Lightning cracks through the sky, causing the room to light up for a split second, then go back to complete darkness. Jaidon's crying silences upstairs but Jordan is still loud.

"Doesn't this place have a generator or something?" I ask over Jordan's loud screams.

"Oh yeah, it's in the basement. Just a switch that has On and Off. Flip it to on." Sean answers.

I see Ariana coming downstairs with Jaidon while I go down the basement stairs. The switch is right next to the staircase so I flip it and the lights come back on. I go back upstairs and to the living room.

"Nice save, Taylor." Sean says.

Sean places Jordan on the couch and changes it to the news.

"The weather has changed. This is a hurricane. Everyone get to high ground now!" The news reporter says as a flying branch hits the window behind her.

A crack forms in the glass and she screams.

"Go off the air, we need to get to safety." She says.

Sean changes it back to Spongebob as he sits on the couch next to Jordan, dried tears on her face.

"Baby girl, it's ok. We're safe in here."

"Don't we need to go upstairs?" Karmani says, being silent until now.

"No. There is absolutely no way water can get into this house. The walls on all the houses in this neighborhood are basically glued to the ground." Ariana says.

"Ok." She tightens her hold on her little brother as another boom of thunder occurs.

Jordan jumps but she seems to be getting used to it. The twins continue watching Despicable Me 2 on their tablet while Jordan, Karmani, Oliver, and Mackenzie watch Spongebob.
