I got to my front porch to find a corpse lying there. "Well this is new." I said. I kicked the intruder on my porch. Her hair gave way from her face revealing that it was Charlotte.
"Get up. I told you to go home." I complained. I kept nudging her with my foot. I could tell she was awake since her eyes lids moved.
They flickered open to revealed kind blue eyes. "But you are my home." Charlotte said softly. She giggle and rolled on the floor like a kid.
I couldn't help but laugh as well. "Yeah yeah. Let's get inside." I grabbed her arm an opened the door. "Best friend." We smiled at each other in agreement.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We both watched "My Little Mermaid" on the couch eating chips. I yawned. "You would totally be Ariel in a Disney Movie dude." I said to Charlotte.
"Yup..." She said in a daze. I looked over to her if she was even listening to me. I saw her on the phone texting someone. I jumped over to her side of the couch, "Who ya texting?"
She pushed me off her, "No one!" She put her phone away and shoved chips in her mouth. I knew she was just trying to avoid the subject. I turned the TV off and took the chips away. "Hey!" She said in protest.
"Spill!" I said. She reluctantly gave me her phone. "I knew you were going to give it to me anyways even if I didn't ask you."
Charlotte crossed her arms. "Yeah I know." She said in defeat. She scooted next to me to watch me read her phone.
On her phone was hundreds upon hundreds of texts from Erick about how he loved her. "Haha, this is great. It's so cheesy." It went on to him talking about how Charlotte was going to the dance with him.
Then I saw a very serious text. It read, "Would you like to be more than friends?" I bursted in laughter. I laid on the couch laughing the heck out of myself. "No way! Hahahahaha. This is the best!"
"Stop!" Charlotte protested, "It's serious! What am I suppose to respond as?! Am I ready?! Am I ready for a boyfriend?! What is a boyfriend?!" She started to freak out.
"Chill chill. Just say yes. You do like him and your mom isn't against it." I said. I dug my nails into my palm. I resisted the urge to feel any emotion.
"Okay okay." Charlotte took a deep breath. She started to text. She typed then backspaced then typed again. It took her five minutes to figure out the words. I sighed at her helplessness. "There, sent!" She said victoriously.
I looked over to see what she sent. She sent 'Sure'. "Sure?! Sure?! Really?!" I said in protest. "He put up all the courage to send you that and you say sure?" I exaggerated a sigh.
"Texting is hard okay!" She said as her face was red. I laughed at how she was flustered.
"Just say what you want to say dude. No holding back. He loves you and you love him." Charlotte smiled a very happy smile which made my heart warm up from its sad coldness.
~~~~~~~~~~~I walked with Matt to our class. The Dance was very close ahead. Matt's head was lowered and his face seemed solemn.
"What up. You've been so down." I said. I grabbed his hair and pulled his face up so he was looking forward, "What's wrong chum. You're going to hit someone if you keep looking at the floor."
"Eh." He simply said. Annoyed, I shook him and begged for him to tell me what was up. "Okay okay."
We walked slower so he could tell me. "Tess. Its about her." He said. "I don't deserve her."
"WHAT?!" I yelled. He covered my mouth. He hushed me harshly. He looked around to see everyone staring at us. We walked faster to be away from the crowd.
"I don't. I do so many harsh things." Matt sighed. "I slapped her. I said harsh words. I made her cry. Everything is my fault." I patted his shoulder. He did do those things.
"We talked a lot that day when I walked her home. I said I was sorry and I should never be forgiven. But she forgave me anyway. She told me she liked my overprotective act." He sighed once more, "But I'm a monster. How could she ever agree to go to the dance with me. I shouldn't have asked her.... She's too nice to say no... I practically forced her into saying yes. I'm the worst."
"Matt dude-" I tried to console him but he cut me off.
"No!" He shoved my hand off his shoulder. "I should just call it off. I love her so much....." I gave him a look but he didn't care. "She deserves someone better. Someone that won't hurt her. Someone like Ryan or Tyler."
My heart skipped a beat at Ryan's name. "Dude. She said yes. She wants you dude. Haven't you heard the saying 'You get hurt by the ones you love the most.'" I said trying to cheer him up.
Before Matt could protest we heard someone call out his name. "Matt! Hey! Wait up!" A voice said from behind. We looked behind to see a tired Tess running towards us.
Matt looked at her in shock, "Hey don't go running and tiring yourself out just to catch up to me. I'm not worth it kid." He held her hand to keep her steady.
She panted. She looked up at Matt with a smile on her face, "Any day. I'd do anything to catch up with you and be by your side." Matt blushed hard. Tess then realized what she said and blushed too. "Tha- I....I didn't mean that!"
Matt chuckled. It was a sweet loving chuckle towards Tess. "What do you need?" He messed with her hair.
"I was wondering if you wanted to match for the dance. Or not.... I could totally understand if you don't want to!" She said trying to be as non-awkward as possible. She smiled up at him sincerely. "I wanted to either where blue or a light green."
He looked at her in shock, "You really want to go with me? Don't you want someone better?"
She looked at Matt in confusion, "Who would be better than you yourself?" They both laughed shyly. Matt played with her hair and squished her cheeks.So that's what love does to people. It's cute.
