Chapter Ten

Hailey is sitting on the couch by the front door.

Wait.

Hailey?!

“Yes, Lucia. I live here.” She smiled, stood, and hugged me. Nicky walked in, followed by Dane. “Who is this?!” Letting go of me, Hailey scans Nicky up and down.

“Nicky Greenwitch.” Nicky extends her hand and smiles as warmly as she can manage. Hailey shoved me behind her and lit her hand on fire, mimicking me and my power.

“Get out of here, you filthy demon!” Hailey took Nicky’s arm and twisted it in a way that even looking at it made me wince.

“Let go of her, Hailey.” Dane shouted over the chaos. Reluctantly, she let go of Nicky.

“What the hell?! “Nicky yelled, thrashing out at Hailey. “You could’ve killed me!” She said in an exasperated voice.

“Good. I would’ve if Dane hadn’t told me to stop.” Hailey said through clenched teeth.

Nicky turned to Dane, her annoynce spreading widely across her face. “What did you tell her about me?!” Dane was silent.

With fear.

“Just that you’re a ruthless Demmonan witch who killed all the Nephillium sixty years ago single-handledy.” Hailey says for him. Nicky jumps at Hailey so fast, her body is a blur. I blink and Nicky has Hailey pinned to the ground holding a dagger to her throat. Hailey whimpered and struggled. But Nicky had her down.

“ I can be ruthless, pretty girl. But” With such grace, she lifts herself from Hailey’s body and places her dagger in her shoe. “I’ve given that life up.” Hailey now stood, a little more relaxed.

“What about your brother?!” Hailey asked. Nicky frowned. Brother?! When the hell did Nicky have a brother?!

“He’s still bad. Heard that he’s gotten a promotion. Controls a legion now. Small one, but still a legion.” Nicky was looking off into the distance.

“What is going on?!” I asked.

“I’ll explain later. Right now you girls have a mission.”
