Mikasa wasn't sure what to expect when she left the dungeon cells, but she sure didn't expect for everyone to know about the execution already. When she finally emerged from underground and walked around to find her squad leaders, her comrades would glance at her from their conversation and give strange looks.Mikasa strode past them and went straight to Erwin's quarters. She bursted through the doors and saw Hange and Erwin there. "You need to stop the execution."
Hange raised a brow. "You're late. You stayed with Annie for a bit after we left."
"You do realize that once everyone is gathered in one spot without their gear, there is a high chance that the other Titan Shifters will appear and whisk Annie away." Mikasa continued. "And here you are worrying about my punctuality."
Erwin looked at her curiously, studying her expression. "I'm counting on it."
Mikasa was taken aback. "What?"
Hange sighed and crossed their arms. "I'm going to assume that once you leave this room feeling as if you've gotten nothing through us then you'll tell your friends about it all and be prepared. If that were to happen, if there was even one person to show up to the execution fully prepared in their gear, then the Titan Shifters won't appear."
"I doubt they want to risk themselves with the entire Scout Regiment fully prepared. After all, they saw what happened to Annie. "Erwin added. "That is why we were going to set up spots full of the gear so when they do show up, everyone would immediately go to it. Everyone would be in their uniform, all they need to do is just put the 3D gear on. The belts and all that would already be taken care of."
Mikasa remained silent, thinking for a moment. She narrowed her eyes. "If you're placing equipment now for the execution later -"
An explosion sounded from the hallway, shaking the ground they stood. A tremor ran through the ground, and shouts and screams could be heard. Without a word all three scouts went towards the door and dust erupted into the room. Mikasa coughed and squinted her eyes, pushing through the door with an arm covering her nose and mouth. Scouts ran down the hallway away from the explosion where the dust was so thick Mikasa couldn't see the end of the hall.
Mikasa went towards the giant cloud but then a shadow emerged and her eyes widened.
Levi came at them running with blood on the side of his head from a large cut, and his calculating eyes were wild and frantic. "Go back!" He yelled. "The Armored Titan appeared in the plaza!"
"He did?" Hange exclaimed excitedly, rubbing their hands together, seemingly unaffected by the dust with her goggles. "Oh this is going to be fun."
"Mikasa," Erwin commanded. "Get your gear from the back quarters and take squads four and three to be the vanguard. Appear on the left side of the top floor of this keep."
Mikasa nodded already walking backwards while listening to him, but as soon as he finished she then broke into a sprint, and ran to the back quarters of the keep, away from the giant dust cloud the others seemed to run into. Mikasa's mind went to Eren and Armin.
Were they alright? Did they get hurt? Or worse, were they dead? She shook her thoughts away, calming her already speeding heart beat. If there was one thing she learned from her intense training into the Scout Regiment, it was that nothing got accomplished in chaos. She couldn't panic right now, not when she was the captain of her own squads, and most definitely not when there was a chance that Eren and Armin could be in danger.
No, she was in soldier mode now. She was stern faced and ready to fight. As soon as she made it to the back quarters, not even out of breath, she already saw the Scouts putting on their gear. She saw a mop of brown hair and went to her fellow friend.
