Sabrina and I woke up at 8. We headed down at 8:30. We fixed our plates and sat down with Kelcie, Jess, Cady and Casey. 20 minutes later all of our plates were clear but we stayed to talk until Coach French came up to our table.
French: well 6 of my 11 are here. We are going to meet at 11 in my room
Casey: okay thanksCoach French left and we finished our conversation. We left the table at 10:30 so we could grab some things. Sabrina grabbed her phone and I grabbed my watch. Sabrina knocked on the door and we went in. I sat on the floor and Sabrina sat next to me. Casey and Cady came in last so we started the meeting.
French: The game today is against Sweden as you know. They are not as physical as other teams but they will put pressure on us. If we keep possession and have a fast pace we will be fine. For this tournament we will have 2 captains. Sabrina of course is one but does anyone object to Solo being the other? Good. When we get back to the locker room before walkout you will change into you jerseys and if you want your thermals because a cold front is coming in at 2 and it is expected to get pretty cold. You will put you jackets on over them and then lineup. It will be Captains and then by number. I have some film for you all to watch before we head to lunch.
Coach French turned on her computer and pulled up Sweden's last game. We watched a little and then discussed their mistakes.
Sabrina: If you watch their midfield they play more on the left then the right so when you get the chance switch the field over.
Me: Also their defense is leaving gaps all over the place look for them. Through balls is how we will shut them down. Their wingers keep the sideline locked down for the most part so our focus needs to be on the gaps in the middle.
Casey: this is really only for Solo and Kelcie but other if you they have the chance. Their goalie doesn't come out far so there is less angles but she doesn't jump and reach well so when you shoot either go for the far post or upper corners.
French: good girls way to read them
Me: Also they have a fast player, number 12; she is on the left wing so keep an eye on her.
French: I think that covers everything. You have an hour till lunch. Thank you for meeting. Oh wait 1 more thing actually. For this tournament you only get 3 subs a game. That means if you come off the field for blood/injury we won't put a sub on unless absolutely needed. Now you can go see you girls later. We all left and went to the dining hall to play games until lunch. We played heads up and Uno. Lunch was ready so we fixed our plates and sat back down to eat. We finished and then went to get our gear. Our gear consisted of a black warmup top, white games shorts, and our game socks. I got my game cleats and the Sabrina and I went to our room to change. I put on my top, shorts, sock and shoes. I put on my jacket but put my pants in my backpack before we headed down to the lobby. Down in the lobby Sabrina and the other girls all had their pants on so I was the only one without them. We loaded up the bus and went to the field.
The bus pulled into the stadium and we got off. Getting off the bus the film man was recording for the team snapchat and twitter account. As I got off I waved and then followed the girls in to the locker room. We went in the locker room and put on our cleats and shin guards. I put mine on and put on my headphones. I climbed into my locker and started my music. Once I got in my zone I climbed out and went out for warmups.
We did our stretches and warmup drill. We took some shots and then headed back in. We put on our jerseys and jackets. We lined up and I was behind Sabrina and in front of Casey. We walked out and stopped and turned to the fans. I didn't realize how many people were there until now. The ceremony didn't last long. The announcer called out all of our names and we waved. We took the starting 11 picture and then took off our jackets. Coach French called Sabrina and me over and put blue captain bands on our arms. We then took the field together.
