"Are you alright sweetcheeks?" Jacob asked Connie as she entered the kitchen. She didn't look well this morning.
"Oh I'm fine" Connie began walking towards the table to join him, but before she had reached her chair, stopped suddenly. Jacob watched as her face drained of colour and she quickly turned back around, rushing to the bathroom with her hand over her mouth.
She returned 5 minutes later and sat down next to Jacob.
"Sounds like someone is going to be calling in sick today..."
---
"Where's Connie today?" Zoe asked Jacob. She was surprised to hear that Connie had taken a day off, it wasn't usual for her to miss a shift.
"She's not well. I had the pleasure of listening to her throwing up while eating my breakfast this morning" Jacob chuckled.
Zoe raised her eyebrows "morning sickness?"
Jacob stared at Zoe in shock as his brain processed what she was implying. "no...she can't be?"
It could certainly explain this morning's events... but he tried to push the thought away, she couldn't be.
---
Jacob returned from his shift to find Connie doing paperwork at the table. He shook his head at her "even when you're unwell you can't take your mind off work can you?"
Connie finished what she was writing and looked at Jacob "well, it's not going to write itself is it?"
Jacob rolled his eyes. "How are you feeling now sweetcheeks?"
"Not too bad, thankfully the sickness seems to have passed now. But Jacob, I have something exciting to tell you. I was going to tell you this morning before you left" Connie stood up and walked towards him.
Oh god. Zoe's words sprung to mind. His earlier suspicions were right. "I already know" Jacob admitted to her.
"Wait, how did you know??" Connie looked at him in surprise, she had no idea how he had found out.
"well, you're unusually pale, the morning sickness...you're pregnant aren't you?"
Connie's jaw dropped. "I'm what?" she scoffed.
"having a baby..." Jacob confirmed.
Connie put her hand over her mouth and laughed.
Jacob gave her a puzzled look.
"Jacob, I am NOT pregnant"
"oh..."
"I was just going to tell you, that I made a few changes to the work rota and managed to get us both this weekend off" Connie watched Jacob look awkwardly down at his feet.
"Ahh...I may have been too quick to jump to conclusions..."
Connie laughed and wrapped her arms around him. "Let's not get carried away, it's early days"
Jacob pulled her closer. "I'm definitely not ready to share you with anyone yet"
