Jacob was surprised when he opened his hotel door room to find Connie standing there.
They were at a three day conference together and having finished their meetings for the day both had retreated to their hotel rooms. This late in the evening however, Connie was the last person he had expected to see at his door.
Things had been friendly between the pair during their trip, but neither could deny the unresolved tension between them.
A three day conference, just the two of them, would have been something to look forward to a few weeks ago, but in their current situation, the trip was just clouded by an awkward atmosphere.Neither said anything for a moment, just stood, waiting for the other one to say the first word.
"Connie..." Jacob finally said, slowly.
"I...I er..." Connie stuttered, suddenly wondering why she had brought herself to his door anyway.
Jacob kept his eyes on Connie's, waiting for her to explain why she was here, at his hotel room, what purpose she had for such an unexpected visit. Connie kept his eyes on his, wondering how much longer she could ignore the feelings she still had for Jacob, how much longer they could pretend that nothing had changed between them, that time wasn't making this any easier to ignore."Are you coming in?" Jacob asked her hesitantly.
Connie was ready to shake her head and turn around, maybe this was a mistake, she shouldn't have come to see him, but something bad taken her out of her hotel room and brought her here, to him.
"Er yeah." Connie quietly replied.
Jacob took a step back and moved to the side to let Connie step past him and join him in the room.Jacob closed the door behind them while Connie made her way into the small room, which was rather identical to hers - a double bed in the centre, a small chair beneath the window.
Jacob watched her carefully and sighed in exasperation. Why had she come here? Why was she making this harder for the both of them?
"Why are you here, Connie." Jacob asked as he made his way over to where she was now stood.
Connie studied his face and sighed. "To see you?" She said quietly.
Jacob took a step forward. "You made it clear that-"
"I know what I said Jacob, I know that I told you things between us had to end. Don't you think that I regret that every day, always wishing that it wasn't like this between us.
You really think I was able to just switch my feelings off for you? I didn't end this because I don't love you Jacob and you know that." Connie interrupted.
Jacob frowned. Of course he knew Connie's reasons, she ended their relationship for the sake of Grace, but he didn't understand what she was now trying to tell him. "What do you want Connie?" He sighed.
Connie took a step forward, to close the gap between the two.
Connie dropped her hands by her sides and let her heart speak. "I...I want you."
Jacob didn't know how to respond.
Connie regretted what she had just said.
Silence filled the room.Jacob's face was so close to hers, so close to touch, Connie could feel the warmth of his breath on her skin.
Connie tentatively raised her hand, slowly edging it towards his face. She let it rest gently upon his mouth, brushing her thumb lightly across his bottom lip, which was so soft against her skin.
Jacob's hands found their way to Connie's arms with ease, he watched Connie carefully as she let her thumb rest just below his mouth on the stubble of his beard before tracing her fingers along his jawline.
Connie's fingers slid down to his chest. Jacob's hands to her neck.
Connie's face was cupped gently in Jacob's hands, held still in his hold. She nodded, she wanted this, she couldn't resist anymore.
His face began moving closer to hers, her eyes closed, her lips waited patiently for his to meet hers, desperate to feel their delicate touch again.
The pressing of his lips against hers was everything that she had missed, her body relaxed in his hold.
Connie smiled into his lips, she was happy.
Jacob pulled away and smiled down at Connie. In each other's arms was where they belonged.
