For those of you left distraught by my last oneshot, here's a happy one in attempt to make it up to you *particularly MB*😂👏🏻
"Will you marry me?" The words fell out of Jacob's mouth as he walked through the department with Connie.
Connie stopped and looked at him with wide eyes and open mouth. She wasn't expecting those words to come out of Jacob's mouth, she was utterly surprised. "What?"
"Marry me..." Jacob said slowly, now regretting what he had said.
Connie looked to the nurses station nearby, from which a number of the department staff where watching, having stopped what they were doing. Connie was definitely not one to air her private life at work, and the current situation was one she felt very uncomfortable in. "I er..." She muttered, her mind more focussed on the fact they had an audience, Jacob's question hadn't really been processed in her mind.
"Sorry I don't know what I was thinking, of course you don't want to marry me." Jacob mumbled and turned away so he could get back to work.
Connie immediately focussed her attention back to Jacob. "No, Jacob-" she called after him.
Jacob turned back to face her and forced a smile "Seriously Connie, it's fine, honestly. I get it, it's cool."
Connie sighed as she watched him walk away.
She did want to marry him, of course she did. This was all just so strange still, being with a man she truly loved.
She strode to her office and sat down. He now thought she didn't want to marry him, he probably now thought she wasn't serious about their relationship, but she really was.
Jacob avoided Connie for the rest of the shift, even offering to work through his break, instead of taking up Connie's offer to talk in her office.
Connie rubbed her temples. She hated this. She needed him to know how much she loved him.
There was a way, which she could prove her love...she was going to have to ask him to marry her.
Connie spotted Jacob walking towards her and gave him a warm smile. "Can I talk to you, in my office, please?" She asked.
Jacob didn't look up from what he was doing. "I'm really busy, sorry." He said quietly.
"Fine, if that's how you want to play this..." she muttered to herself under her breath.
She fixed her glare on him. "Staff Nurse Masters" She shouted sternly, which startled most of the department, causing them all to look her way.
Everyone except Jacob, who still didn't bother to look at her.
Connie pushed her tongue in her cheek. He was so stubborn sometimes, just like her.
She waited, but he still didn't look up, so she climbed on to the nurses station surface and stood up.
"Can I have everyone's attention please." Connie began, despite it being only Jacob who's attention she didn't have.
Jacob finally looked at her upon hearing her loud voice, and was utterly shocked at the sight he was met with.
"Jacob Masters. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me, I am so lucky to have met you. You asked me to marry you earlier, and I must admit, I froze. It's been a long time since I experienced love, I'm still learning how to do it. But my answer wasn't no Jacob. My answer was yes, the easiest yes in my life. I love you Jacob Masters, more than I thought I was capable of, which is why, I want to spend every waking minute of the rest of my life with you. I would be honoured to be the woman you wake up to every morning, and the woman you come home to every night. Will you marry me?"
The whole department couldn't help but smile as they witnessed Connie's speech, and everyone looked to Jacob, waiting for his answer.
Jacob took slow steps towards the nurses station, keeping his eyes fixed on Connie's as he approached. He stopped directly in front of where she was stood and looked up at her.
"I just thought you didn't want to marry me." He whispered quietly, feeling a little embarrassed about how he had behaved towards her today.
Everyone was still waiting for Jacob's answer, and Connie stood awkwardly above the department, now realising what she had just done, in front of everyone.
"You're meant to give an answer..." She mumbled.
Jacob looked up immediately and smiled. "Sorry, I forgot." He whispered. "Yes." He said louder, so everyone could hear. "Yes, marrying you would make me the happiest man alive."
He held his arms out and picked Connie up, lifting her gently to the ground.
Their audience of the department staff erupted into cheers and clapped loudly.
Jacob pulled Connie in close and rested his forehead against hers.
"I love you sweetcheeks." He smiled.
Connie wrapped her hands around his neck and smiled, a genuine smile, so full of happiness. It was happiness she had never felt before and she loved it.
"I love you, Jacob Masters."
"I can't wait to call you my wife." Jacob whispered.
"I can't wait to be your wife." Connie smiled, before placing her lips against his.
