"No." Connie said, without even bothering to looking up from her work. She knew who it would be, Jacob was the only member of staff who dared to enter her office without knocking.
"I'm intrigued Mrs B" Jacob said as he sat himself down on the chair in Connie's office.
Connie rolled her eyes and continued to work. "About?" She sighed.
"I'm intrigued, as to how you have the ability to answer a question before it has been asked" Jacob said. "Does it come with the job title, or is it just a natural ability of yours?"Connie looked at him and narrowed her eyes. "I'm also intrigued, staff nurse Masters, as to why you think it's appropriate to walk into my office without permission? I happen to know that ability does not come with your job title." Connie said as she raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms.
Jacob chuckled in amusement and leant back in the chair so he was comfortable.
"So sweetcheeks, back to my initial question-" Jacob began to ask, but Connie cut him off. "I said no"
"There you go again, you haven't even heard my question" Jacob pointed out and watched Connie look away in irritation. He leant forward so he was on the edge of his chair before continuing. "It just so happens that, I was going to ask you if you would prefer it if I knocked before entering in the future. But I mean if you're that positive that your answer is no, I guess you're happy for me to visit more often" he grinned at Connie.Connie looked away and pursed her lips. How did he always manage to get to her like this, she had never met anyone like him.
Before she had time to think of a smart remark, he had stood up and was making his way out of her office. He turned in the doorway before leaving. "Guess I will see you soon, sweetcheeks" he winked at her and walked through the department with a satisfactory smile on his face.Connie exhaled deeply as she watched him walk away. She picked up her pen and tried to erase him from her thoughts as she continued with her work.
He had to be one of the most annoying people she had ever met. But he was certainly persistent, she had to give him that. She watched him saunter around the department. She knew there was going to be no stopping him now that he had it in his head that he was welcome in her office any time.
She grabbed a blank sheet of paper from the side and quickly wrote in capital letters 'DO NOT DISTURB. MEETING IN PROGRESS'. She rose from her chair and stuck it on the small window of the office door, so it could be read from the outside by the department staff. She let out a sigh of relief. That should stop him, she hoped. It seemed to work, and three hours later, thankfully Jacob hadn't returned again.
Connie smiled as she picked up her stethoscope from her desk and strutted into the department. When she returned half an hour later after treating in resus, she found Jacob waiting outside her door. She ignored him and began to type in the code to her office.
Jacob pointed to the sign as he read the words. "Do not disturb. Meeting in process. Funny that." He said.
Connie stopped what she was doing and turned to glare at him.
"You see, no one has entered or left your office this afternoon, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I was always under the impression that a meeting involved another person?" He looked at her with a puzzled expression.
Connie pushed her tongue in her cheek. She tried to think of a witty response, but she couldn't, he'd done it again.
Jacob crossed his arms. "Nice try sweetcheeks"
Connie place a hand on her hip and watched him walk away laughing to himself.
Jacob stopped at the nurses station and leant against the side to watch Connie. He smiled to himself as he watched her open her office door and rip the sign off, scrumpling it into the bin.
It was working, he was getting to her.
