Here's a part two for those who requested it - hope you enjoy it☺️
"MUM"
Connie removed her hands from her face when she heard Grace shouting for her from upstairs.
She let out a deep breath and quickly brushed the tears away from her cheeks before making her way upstairs.
"Everything all right sweetie?" Connie asked as she entered Grace's room.
Grace gave her mum a warm smile. "Can we do something together today?"
Connie smiled. "Of course. I could take you shopping if you want?"
Grace nodded. "I would like that"
"Why don't you go downstairs and get your shoes and coat on, while I go and get ready. I won't be a minute" Connie said before leaving Grace's room and making her way across the landing to hers.
She stood in her bathroom, in front of the mirror and studied her face in the reflection. What were you thinking? She whispered to herself. How could you be so stupid?
She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths. She needed to decide what she was going to do.
She considered her options. Be honest with him, tell Jacob as soon as he got back. Or, just pretend it never happened. After all, Sam would be back in America in a few days time, it wasn't like Jacob was ever going to bump into him. Besides, it meant nothing, it was just a stupid mistake that would only be made worse by telling Jacob... He didn't need to know, did he?
Connie sighed and opened her eyes.
She pushed away all of the thoughts from her mind and turned them all to Grace. Her daughter was the important thing to focus on today, she could deal with everything else later.
Grace was already waiting, ready by the door when Connie finally made her way downstairs.
She slipped on her heels and grabbed her coat from the hook.
"Come on then Grace, let's go!"
Before she pulled off the drive, Connie typed a quick message to Jacob, telling him they probably wouldn't be back when he returned from work.
At least while they were out, she didn't have to face Jacob yet.
Connie and Grace had a lovely time shopping, and exited the shopping centre armed with many bags.
For the whole of the journey home, Connie was distracted by her thoughts, as she worried about what to do.
She decided that for now, the best thing to do was to pretend it never happened. She couldn't bare the thought of losing Jacob.
Jacob heard the car pull into the drive and stood up to greet Connie and Grace at the door.
"You must be Grace!" Jacob grinned as he stood at the open door and watched Connie and Grace get out of the car.
"I'm guessing you're Jacob." Grace smiled back while walking towards the house. She had already been told about Jacob, and she was looking forward to meet him. She had seen how different her mum was now that she had Jacob, she had seen how happy she was when she talked about him.
"Are you coming in Connie?" Jacob asked.
Connie realised she was still stood by the car, and Grace and Jacob were now watching her at the front door.
"Er, yeah. You two go in...I'll just grab the shopping bags" she called before opening the boot.
She hadn't anticipated that she was going to feel so guilty even seeing Jacob.
Connie dropped the bags in the hallway and walked into the living room where Jacob and Grace were chatting away.
Grace looked up when she walked in. "Can I go and try on my new clothes??" She asked eagerly.
Connie nodded. "Sure, the bags are in the hall"
She watched Grace run excitedly out of the room and turned her attention to Jacob, giving him a smile. "How was your shift?" She asked him.
"Oh you know, just the usual. How was your day with Grace?" He asked.
Connie removed her coat. "It was really good. I was worried that things were going to be strained between us, but she seemed to be having a good time."
Jacob could see how happy she was and smiled. "Did everything go ok when Sam dropped her off?"
Connie looked up in shock. "Yes. Why wouldn't it?"
Jacob was a little surprised at her tone.
Connie immediately realised how sharp her voice had been and formed her lips into a smile. "Well he didn't stay for long, just dropped her off and left. We didn't have much to say to each other."
Jacob smiled and walked over to Connie. He placed his hands on her waist. "What have you planned for tomorrow with Grace?" He asked.
"She's being picked up at 12, so we won't really have time to go anywhere tomorrow."
"Well, I managed to switch my shift for tomorrow, so I'm now working tomorrow evening rather than the morning. So, I can make you both a nice breakfast" Jacob smiled.
Connie opened her mouth. That meant Jacob would be here when Sam came to pick Grace up. What if he mentioned something? She didn't trust that he would keep quiet about what had happened.
She forced a smile. "That's great."
Jacob leaned in to kiss her, but Connie pulled away. "I er, just need to, take my shopping upstairs."
