Vera's POV
The next couple of days had the same routine. Except for one. It was early morning. I know so because one of the nurses (during the night shift) so kindly thought to leave the shades up.
Just as I awoke, a person walked right in, to my slight surprise, it was my doctor.
Not that I knew right away but the pleasant and distant smile gave it away. It was obvious. More so than the white lab coat.
"Hello, I see you're awake, Vera." He said, trying to be formal.
"Yeah." I greeted him.
"How are you feeling, Miss Warren? Sleepy? Are you drinking enough of your fluids" He asked me.
"I'm okay, smashing, really." I told him, realizing I don't like him.
He was too formal. Probably new at this. Clearly one that lacked social skills. I would have preferred someone more easier to speak to.
"When do you think I'll be up and moving, Doc?" I asked him.
"Doctor Benjamin Waters," He corrected me. "And in as little as the next day. Why?"
"No reason." I lied.
I actually wanted to see Adam and how he was doing.
"Hmm." He said. And with that, he left the room without so much as a goodbye.
That was when I got up.

Going down the hall trying to not be caught by the nurses or doctors was hard. But I endured and made it to the elevators. Getting on the elevator, I pressed the second floor button and was going up. Making my way down the hall to ask the receptionist which room was Adam's was surprisingly hard. Not because it actually was but because I realized I was afraid of what to say when I would meet him.
Telling me the room number, I ambled over to the door and looked in through the window. There he was, awake and silent. He seemed to be in his thoughts. He always was. Summoning up my courage, I knocked on the door. He said to come in and come in I did.
"Hey," He greeted me, sounding surprised.
"Hi," I said.
"How are you feeling?" He asked me.
"Nervous," I answered.
"Nervous, for what?" He said.
I hesitated for a brief second.
I didn't think I should tell him about how I felt about him yet. "Nervous about that arm cast you have there." I joked.
"Ah, this old thing? I had this awhile... Heard though that it takes six weeks to take off. Ain't that sucky, huh?" He played along.
"Yeah. Sure sounds like it does." I told him.
Adam cracked a smile.
"Yeah, but what's wacko is the food and doctors..." He told me, making a face.
I smiled.
Oh God, how could I have been so oblivious? While everyone saw the love that we had between us, we chose to say nothing. Vance was right.
"Adam..." I said suddenly.
Adam looked up at me.
"Yeah?" He said softly.
"How about you and I make a deal?" I said.
"Shoot." He told me.
"If you do your thing as a good civilian and get that cast off, I'll take you out on a date." I told him.
"That's a pretty good deal. I accept." He said, grinning from ear to ear.
"My favorite?" He asked me.
"Your favorite." I agreed.
We shook hands on it.
