Chapter 8 - Dani
How many miles to Babylon? Three score and ten. Can I get there by candle light? Or how about the light coming from my phone, that ought to help.
I was in my room, listening to music and reading a book. I was also texting Ash, but she hadn’t replied yet. My phone finally rang, but when I looked at the address bar, it was blank. I opened up the message and there was a huge black hole in it, but it was animated. I had a sudden urge to jump into the phone, but before I could shake it off, I started singing this old nursery rhyme. I couldn't resist, i was just flat out singing.
"How many miles to Babylon? Three score and ten. Can I get there by candle light? Yes, there and back again. If your heels are nimble and light, you can get there by candle light," the black hole became a reality, and I was twisting and turning as I floated through it. Yeah, I know, I sound crazy, and it sounds like a stereo type sort of mythical kidnapping, but it actually happened.
I was floating through it, when finally it came to an end. When I was done being hurtled through time and space, I found myself in a little village. It was scarce of people, and most of them were very short. I looked around and saw no people that were regular sized. Most of the women were wearing dull colored skirts and bonnets, and I felt out of place being tall, dressed in modern, colorful clothing. I walked over to an elderly woman.
“Hi, quick question, where am I?” she stared at me for a moment, gawking at my stupidity.
“Well, to be quite frank, you’re in a town where you do not belong! But the name of the town is Babylon, and I am Lucy McNaf. Pleasure to meet you, all though you might want to be hiding! The king’s men are looking for Humpty Dumpty, and anywhere that they find peccadilloes, or even the slightest irregularity, they tend to try to fix ‘em. You’ll have to learn the hard way if you don’t be getting’ outta here,” the woman said in a thick Scottish accent.
“Oh, my name is Dane. Do you have any suggestions as to where I can hide? I mean if I really nedd to be hiding,” Lucy stared at me again, gawking at my stupidity.
“Go down the alley to my right and into the sewers, it shouldn’t be too dirty this time o’ day. The king’s men never do daily inspections over there, they’re too lazy,” she said with a matter-of-fact tone.
“Thank you much,” I said shaking her hand.
“I will see you soon, Daniella Jones,” she said and her eyes glistened, and she looked young for a moment. I couldn’t stop though, I needed to hide before the king’s men got here. Again, I know I sound crazy, but first off, what do I have to lose by hiding from king’s men in a sewer. Maybe a little fresh smell, and a little dignity, but it was worth it since I had no idea where I was, and I couldn’t just fend for myself in an unknown place. That’s even more crazy than the hiding in the sewer.
After a few minutes of waiting, I opened the sewer lid and saw Ash appear out of nowhere, and after that, Alice. I had no idea what was going on, but I whispered at them.
“Pst… Pst…Pst,” finally I caught their attention and they hesitantly walked towards me, “Hey, guys, it’s me, Dane,”
“Oh, Dani, I have no idea where we are, or what happened,” ash cried.
“Sh! Careful come down here, I have light from my phone. I know it reeks, but it’s better than getting kidnapped by soldiers, or whatever they are,”
“Have you gone completely crazy? We are in a place that we’ve never seen before. We’re surrounded by dwarves. And we’re escaping from imaginary soldiers? First explain everything and then I will get in the smelly sewer,” Alice demanded. So I told her everything that had happened from the second that I had got there. Alice and Ash climbed into the sewer and I shut the lid right in time. The king’s men had actually arrived. They were real, and I wasn’t crazy because I told Alice to take a look and she saw them too.
“Wait, you said they were looking for Humpty Dumpty?” Ash asked and I nodded.
“But, he’s not even real,” she stared at me for an answer.
“I don’t know what to tell you, maybe he’s a man nicknamed Humpty Dumpty,” Ash pondered this, and then she gasped.
“It is actually Humpty Dumpty, I had a dream a few days ago, that Humpty Dumpty escaped from prison. It can’t be a coincidence. The king’s men were looking for him in my dream, and they had the same exact uniforms,” we all stared wide-eyed at each other, and then the lid opened.
