Mark had finally done it.

He had gotten a tattoo.

It wasn't much, just a detailed outline of a rose on his left bicep-since that was the flower that was used at his parents wedding. It had the date his dad had died in block letters below it, and none of it was colored. Both parts of the tattoo were just outlines.

His husband Jack had though it was sweet. Every time Jack would go to rub Mark's shoulder, he would graze his hand along the side and watch as Mark would smile.

It was a hot day in California when Mark and Jack's six year old daughter,Piper, had noticed the tattoo.

Mark was sitting on the couch shirtless, and Jack had cranked the air conditioner up to full blast, hoping it would help. Their daughter walked into the living room with a coloring book and markers-washable ones since she always managed to get it on herself-when she sat by Mark and started coloring.

"Daddy?" Piper asked, looking at Mark with her blue eyes.

"What's up, baby girl?" Mark asked, looking at her.

"What's that on your arm?" Piper inquired, pointing to the rose on Mark's bicep.

"That's my tattoo, sweetie." Mark said, trying to explain the concept. "It's ink that stays on my arm forever."

"So you can't wash it off?" Piper asked.

"No, it's stuck on my arm." Mark continued. "I got it to remember your grandpa by."

"Can I color it?"

Mark looked at Piper with confusion.

"What?" he asked. Jack stood in the kitchen watching the scene.

"Can I color it, Daddy?" Piper asked. "You said it can't come off. And my markers are the ones that can wash off."

"I mean, if you want to, baby girl. I guess you can..." Mark said, taking his arm and letting it fall to his side. Piper got to her knees on the couch and grabbed a marker, starting to color in Mark's tattoo. Mark was nervous since he was worried it wouldn't come off, and so was Jack, but Jack took pictures anyway. Mark had snapped a few of Piper as well, watching how concentrated she was.

"All done, Daddy!" Piper chirped, minutes after she started. She put the lid back on her marker and watched as Mark examined her work.

Each petal of the rise was a different color, but all the colors were colors of the rainbow. Piper had colored the numbers below the flower as well, and they were all black. She had done a fairly good job of staying in the lines.

"This is really pretty, baby girl!" Mark chirped as Piper crawled into his lap. She sat down on Mark's legs as Jack came and sat down where she was previously working.

"Hey, Marky." Jack said, pecking Mark's cheek. "How's it feel being a canvas?"

"Pretty good." Mark chuckled, grabbing his phone and taking a picture of him and Piper. She smiled and Mark laughed-since she was missing her two front teeth.

Mark opened Twitter and Jack watched as he made a new tweet. He had linked the selfie of him and Piper and one of her coloring in the rose.
