Chapter 29

The next morning, Mrs. Rosa went to Lany's room to wake up her daughter to go her work. She saw her daughter's bed was in order and there was a letter on her bedside table.

The girl's mother was reading the letter and began screaming waking her husband and her son.

"Our daughter went to the city!" she said sobbing. "She left us!"

"If it were up to me, she never will set foot in this house again!" Heitor said, resentful at Lany.

Antony received the news through Lany's brother, who ran to tell to him early in the morning.

"She has gone too far! She was accompanied by a strange man to the capital," Nelio mentioned full of anger.

"Now I understand why she told me those things last night!" He put his hand on his head, trying to control his nervousness. "It really was a goodbye."

"What will you do now? Will you go after her?" Nelio asked.

"Even if she were the only woman in the world, I would never go after her." He swallowed. "I will forget she ever existed in my life," Antony said with stubbornness.
