Chapter 13

Antony was increasingly seduced by his best friend's sister. Despite the difference of ideals between the two of them, the attraction was strong.

Lany was dreamy and Antony was realistic.

The mechanic would need little else to be happy, while she would need a lot more.

He was lying on the couch with his head on his sweetheart's lap. Lany was caressing his scalp.

"I want to go live in the capital. What about you?" she asked.

"I have no desire to go live in the capital," he replied coldly.

"Why, Antony?" She asked dissatisfied.

"I prefer the tranquility of the country."

"Do you prefer this little world?" She asked with repulse.

"Yes, I prefer it," he said with altruism.

"Have you no ambition in your life?"

"Not the type of ambition you dream of... no," he said serious.

"How do you know about my ambitions?" She asked in surprise.

"Your brother told me," he said.

"Nelio thinks I'm a fool. He says I'm very dreamy," she smiled.

"I am not against the dreams, I just think we should know how far we are able to go with them," he explained.

"Would you go to the city with me? Would you leave your garage to live with me in another place?" She asked looking at his face.

"Hum, it depends on..." he said.

"Why does it depend on?"

"I have to respect your dreams and you have to respect mine."

"What are your dreams?"

"I just want to be happy," he said humbly.

"Happy?" She laughed. "Everyone wants that!"

"I dream of one day having a wife and my children," he said with enthusiasm.

"Only this?" she asked feeling confused.

"Do I need anything else?" He asked looking into her eyes.

"Yes, money, a beautiful home, a life in the city..." She said it with such excitement, as if she truly believed she could accomplish all her dreams at that time.

"That is all an illusion... I don't need it."

"I thought you were more ambitious!" She complained, outraged.

"I will never think like you." He stood up. "Wealth does not fill my eyes, In addition to my father..."

He denied his words after he had noticed he was saying unnecessary things.

"Continue talking!" she ordered.

"Forget what I said. I need to go and take a shower." He got up and walked away.
