One year and six months later…

Seunghee marches along the other graduates of batch 2018. She has completed the course. She has finally reached the degree she has long been wishing for. The graduation hymn plays now and it’s her turn to receive her own certificate. She climbs up the stage and gives each of the presenters a handshake. Then finally, she gets a hold of her prize. It’s fulfilling to have this piece of paper after working so hard to get it. There’s nothing better than having a great education.

Right after the ceremonies and after her family has gone, Seunghee stays behind to spend a little more time with her friends before celebrating the day with them at home. Sorn and Jun are there to congratulate their only female senior.

“Yahh!!” Sorn and Seunghee hugs each other. Jun is just behind Sorn also ready to commend her.

“Congratulations unnie!” Sorn greets cheerfully.

“Congratulations noona,” Jun seconds.

“Thanks, you guys. You’ll be having this next year too. I’ll make sure to attend your graduation,” Seunghee says.

“Ah… don’t make us hope for it. Areum unnie told you the same thing right? But she’s not here right now,” Sorn sulks.

Seunghee just displays a sly smile, “Unnie’s starting to be like Oppa now.”

“I agree,” Sorn replies.

“Working at SME is not a joke, you both know that,” Jun reminds.

“Well, yeah but they still should have time for friends,” Sorn utters. ”Oh well, just keep in touch unnie. I’m gonna miss you,” Sorn says while hugging her again.

“Come on, it’s only a year. And I’m not so far away. You can call me anytime,” Seunghee tells her.

“But Areum unnie told us that too. And what happened? She’s always busy, she can’t even pick up a call on her birthday,” Sorn whines.

Seunghee only giggles at her. “Well, you have a point there.”

“Noona, this is for you. Sorn and I chose this,” Jun hands her a blue scarf.

“You guys, it’s better if it’s food! Just joking,” she laughs and they laugh together with her. She puts it around her neck and it fits her perfectly. “This is perfect guys, though winter just ended. But thanks.”

Jun and Sorn only smiles back at her.

Somewhere far behind them, Seunghee catches a glimpse of someone familiar. And she becomes sure once she sees Seungcheol and Jisoo nearby. It’s Nayeon. She can’t believe she shows her face to her right now. But how does she take it? She feels upset. Cuz the person she’s shielding away from her is gone now. And it doesn’t really matter if she’s there or not anymore. Either of them lost him and she’s no better than her. So she disregards the sight of her and just pretends she didn’t see her.

Nayeon thinks she saw her though. She tugs at Seungcheol’s graduation gown, feeling a little troubled.

“What?” Seungcheol asks.

“I think she saw me. I think Seunghee saw me,” she whispers to him.

“It’s alright. I don’t think it still matters to her today,” he responds.

“But still…”

He holds her hand and assures her, “I’m here. You don’t have to worry okay?”
