I was holding him and I felt amazing. I wasn't even sure whether or not I could hear the voices any more, or whether people behind me had started talking and whispering about what had just happened.

“Pope” Tom said and I looked up in an instant. He signalled him to go to a corner to talk.

I put Ben down on his pillow, and he was breathing very heavily. “Relax” I said to him and smiled.

“Lourdes” he said and she immediately came over and sat him on the bed, taking him out of my hands. Whereas I thought that guns would be pointed at me by this point, people were just staring, some whispering. Most, giving a blank look, obviously not sure of what to do about what had happened a couple of seconds before.

Tom took my dad to one corner, and I tried to follow, but then, Ben held my hand and looked at me intensely. I looked to Lourdes, panicked as she was doing something to the drip attached to Ben's arm. He was looking at me so oddly, I though he was either going to kill me, do something really stupid, or say something really important. Either way, I wasn't sure what was going to happen; all the while, I was just silent. Just as everyone. The only thing I could hear, were whispers. Of a conversation between Tom and my dad.

Tom Mason's POV

I walked Pope over to the corner of the room. Lourdes was with Ben, and now, I had to have the discussion I was dreading with Pope. On the kind of bright side, he saw what happened, so not much explaining was necessary, but it still was a conversation I didn't want to have. Walking over to the corner, Pope was as pale as I'd ever seen him. He hadn't spoken since Tanya had woke Ben up; stopped him from seizing, but she obviously wasn't normal. And that could either be really good, or really bad.

“John” I said and he just looked at me. I always called him Pope, but I thought that it wasn't a time to be formal.

“Yeah” he said half-heartedly. He seemed to still be in shock, but then again so was everyone else.

“You don't by any chance know what happened back there do you?” I asked, not expecting much of an answer. Yet, how wrong could I have been?

“She has always been different. Always had issues. But I never thought that this would happen. I'm not sure I even understand it myself.” he sighed heavily in angst.

“What do you mean? You were asking her about some medication. Does that have anything to do with it?” I asked curiously. I needed to know everything before even considering letting her go.

“Yes. She is … well the doctor said it was schizophrenia, but she had … odd symptoms. She was always saying she could hear things, see things that weren't there. But the doctor never really knew exactly why, but the pills never really helped. They tamed her, but didn't really help things along. But now I'm starting to think that maybe there was something else going on” he said and gulped loudly.

“Look, I have to say one thing. Even though she is obviously different, she helped Ben. She helped him wake up, stop whatever was going on. She obviously doesn't mean harm. And, if you say this has been happening for ages, it means it means it isn't something recent, so, we will obviously have to test her but there shouldn't be a problem for you to take her home. But I'll tell you one thing.” I said, warningly “If she does anything, it's on you. So, you find out exactly what is going on, and I mean exactly what is going on. And when you do, you tell me. She won't tell us, but, you are her father. She'll talk to you.” I said, and he looked only to the floor. He hadn't looked up at all. He was obviously thinking about everything. I actually felt both sad and happy for him. Happy as he had now found his daughter again, but sad as I knew that his son was harnessed, and that his daughter was … well God knows what.
