This chapter is based two months after the events in the previous chapter and one day before the events in season 3 episode 1.
Tanya's POV
A cold wind ran down my chest as I ran. It was silly really. I should have just asked them to take a break. But I didn't want to. It made me feel weak, asking them to stop the entire exercise just for me. I was tired, very tired, but nothing could stop me. It had been two months since I had arrived in this half-destroyed town. Charleston however held the hope for more than 3000 people. They looked a lot less than that, but I suppose we have to trust what the authorities tell us to do.
“Get down” I heard Ben scream in my ear and so I did. A bullet went right over my head, and had he not warned me, I would have been dead.
“STOP” I heard a loud voice in the background scream as they realised that somebody was using live ammunition. It could kill someone. In particular, it was meant to kill me. Again.
“What?” Lyle asked. He had very recently been let out of the prison cell he was being kept in for shooting at me and quite frankly he made me scared. The only reason he had to be let out was because there was no way to explain why he was there without also explaining what happened. That he had killed Ben and that I had magically managed to revive him.
“You have live amo. This is a drill Lyle. You know that!” Colonel Weaver's raspy and scary on some occasions voice shouted.
“It was an accident” he said, an obvious smirk on his face. He knew he couldn't kill me. At least not by shooting me. But to be completely honest, I was clueless as to what would happen to me if I got a head injury. The only bad thing about my healing abilities, is I don't know what part of my body is causing it. What area is my Achilles heel. If my powers were permanent. I didn't know a thing about it. Only that it happened. And for me that is something that will get me killed one day. That's how I see it.
“It frakking wasn't” the colonel said as he went over to Lyle and took away his gun. “You were warned” he exhaled and turned around to all the rest of us in the drill. “Right guys. I think you are all ready. For some of you this will be your first mission. For others simply another one in a long series of service. But we are going to do whatever we can to rescue those kids. Now that the Volm have given us the machines, we can de-harness them real quick. So, try to NOT screw this up. It should be simple. You all know your posts.” he said and looked around to all the faces that surrounded him. Myself, Ben, Techtor, Lyle, my dad, the rest of the Berserkers, and several other Charlestonians who thought they had a chance of joining the Second Mass military. “Ladies and gentlemen, I'll see you here tomorrow for the real thing at 0900 hours. Dismissed.”
“How are you then?” Ben said before I even got the chance to catch my breath.
“Good. You know. I mean, it's been two months today since I came here, so I guess I should be happy” I said with a fake smile on my face. That was the day I lost the person I considered closer to me. My brother.
“Are you still in contact with Brandon?” he asked as if he could read my thoughts.
