They had all come to Hannah's house to help. Tyler was in the kitchen making snacks, and the rest of them were dividing the tasks.
"Okay, Flula and I will take apart the old double bed." Chester nodded, leaving with the German to the former guestroom, now Alessandra's bedroom.
"What do we do?" Grace asked.
Hannah shrugged, "I don't know dude, we can't assemble the new bed until the other one is out of the room."
"Don't you need to paint the room, before we put the new furniture in?" Mamrie told her.
"Oh shit!" Hannah cried, "I didn't even think about painting the room! Dammit!"
"It's fine Han," Grace rubbed her back, knowing how stressed Hannah was getting, "We'll just go out and buy the paint now."
"No we can't... I don't even know what her favorite colors are..." Hannah sighed, feeling defeated.
She had gotten permission to take Alex home for the weekend, and she just wanted everything to be perfect.
"Well, then Mamrie and I will start with putting these foamy things on all the sharp corners, and you go and call your kid and ask what colors she wants." Grace suggested.
"She still doesn't speak Grace..." Hannah sighed.
"Then call someone who can ask her to point out colors Hannah," Mamrie said, "Jeezes, and we call Tyler a drama queen." She rolled her eyes.
"Hey! I heard that!" Tyler squealed.

The room turned out beautiful. The walls were bright yellow and the ceiling soft blue like the sky. The sight of the tiny bed made Hannah tear up.
The whole gang stood in the room, taking in the work they'd done.
"Guys, thanks so much," Hannah said, "It's so beautiful."
"Don't start crying yet, Mini-Hart," Mamrie smiled, "We have a gift for you."
Grace handed her a beautifully wrapped package.
"Oh you didn't have to do that." Hannah said, "You guys have already done so much for me."
"Just open it Hart!" Tyler squealed excited.
Hannah tore the wrapping paper off, revealing a tiny carrot onesie for kids.
"Guys!" Hannah gasped.
"It's perfect for Alex." Grace smiled.
"Now you can cry." Mamrie smirked.

"Just sign here," Mona pointed to the dotted line, "And then we're all set."
Hannah quickly scrawled her name down.
"Perfect," Mona smiled, "Do you have your bag Ali?"
"It's Alex," Hannah corrected her, "She doesn't like Ali."
Mona lifted an eyebrow, but didn't comment. Behind her, little Alessandra stood beaming because Hannah had remembered.
"Well, you can leave now, remember to have her back by 5 PM on Sunday." Mona said, before waving them off.
Alex hadn't spoken again after their trip to the park, but Hannah felt the difference in the girl. She didn't trust Hannah yet, but she definitely wasn't afraid anymore. It made her heart soar.
She buckled the kid in, and got into the car herself.
"We need to go buy food first, do you mind?" Hannah asked, looking at Alessandra in the rearview mirror.

Turned out grocery shopping with an anxiety-ridden toddler isn't as easy as Hannah had hoped. The store was too loud and too busy. Alex planted herself in between Hannah and the shopping cart, using her as a human shield.
Hannah had to waddle to make sure she didn't step on the little girl as she pushed the cart down the aisles.
"This isn't working Alex," Hannah sighed, "Do you want to sit in the cart?"
The girl looked around, contemplating the safest option, before nodding and lifting her hands up in a universal gesture to pick her up.
Once she was settled in the cart, Hannah moved to the vegetables.
"Is there anything here that you don't like?" She asked.
Alessandra promptly pointed to the spinach, scrunching up her face in disgust.
"All right, no spinach," Hannah laughed, "What's your favorite veggie?"
She had to think about it for a second, before pointing to the carrots.
Hannah cheered, "That's my girl!"
Alex pumped her fists in the air, cheering along silently, even though she didn't get why.
The shopping trip passed quickly, with pointing fingers and nodding heads. And Hannah whistled UR The 1Z all the way.

When they got home, Hannah gave Alex a quick tour of the house, ending at the girls own brand-new bedroom.
Hannah opened the door, revealing the bright bedroom to Alessandra.
"It still needs some stuff, like toys and books, but I figured you would like to choose those yourself." Hannah explained.
Alessandra silently took the room in.
"Do you like it?" Hannah asked.
The little girl nodded.
"Thank God," Hannah sighed, relieved, "Now, there is one more thing I want to show you."
Hannah opened the closet, and gave Alex the carrot onesie.
"It's a gift from my friends to you." Hannah said, "It's, uh, it's a joke... because I have the same one, and I wrote a song about it..."
Hannah saw the confusion on Alex's face.
"Do you even know what my job is?" Hannah asked.
The girl shook her head.
"Well, let's go order some pizza for tonight, and I'll try to explain it."
