Hannah opened the door, "Hi Grace!"
"Hey," Grace gave her a quick kiss on the cheek, "I'm really sorry for interrupting. I know you said you wanted to be alone with Alessandra, but I really need that koala onesie for my video."
"It's fine," Hannah smiled, "Come in for a minute, I'll go search for it."
Grace followed Hannah inside, "So where's your kid?" she asked, looking around the living room.
"She's playing outside!" Hannah yelled from inside her closet.
"Uh," Grace looked outside, "she's not playing outside Hannah."
"What?!" Hannah stood by her side in a second.
"I mean, she's outside," Grace explained quickly, "But she's just sitting against the fence..."
Hannah let out a breath of relieve, "That's her way of playing I think."
The brunette raised an eyebrow, "That's... sad."
"Yeah, it's like she doesn't know how to play," Hannah said, "I don't think anyone has ever given her the chance to play."
"Poor thing."
Hannah just shrugged, knowing that Alex herself didn't really see the problem with her own behavior.
"Do you want me to call her inside so you can meet her?" She asked.
Grace shook her head, "I don't want to scare her or anything... I'm not really good with kids."
"You'll be fine," Hannah smiled, "Just don't hug her or anything, she hates that just as much as you do."
Hannah went out on the porch, and motioned for Alex to come over. The little girl ran immediately to her, slightly slowing down when she saw the new woman behind Hannah.
"Alex, this is my best friend Grace." Hannah said, kneeling next to the girl, who was trying to hide behind her.
"Hi, Alex." Grace waved awkwardly, "It's nice to meet you."
Alex looked up at Grace with wide eyes.
"She's really tall, isn't she?" Hannah fake-whispered.
The little girl nodded, obviously intimidated. Grace knelt down muttering an awkward "Sorry".
"Do you want to know a secret?" Hannah asked Alex in a childish voice.
Alex nodded again, this time more excited.
"Grace is kind of scared of children." Hannah whispered.
Alex directed her attention back at Grace, looking at her with questioning eyes.
"It's true," Grace nodded, "I'm terrified."
"Aaaaand," Hannah continued, still speaking as if she was telling the most exciting story ever, "She doesn't like hugs."
"I haaaaayte it!" Grace laughed.
Alex smiled, looking at Grace as if she was a miracle.
"I think you're her new favorite person." Hannah laughed.
That got Alex's attention, and she promptly pointed her finger at Hannah.
"Me?" Hannah questioned, "What about me sweetheart?"
"I think she means that you are her favorite person." Grace guessed.
Alex nodded, glad that Grace had understood her.
Hannah started to tear up.
"She's my favorite too," Grace said softly, "Even though she loves to hug people."
Alex's eyes widened at this new information about her favorite person. She tentatively reached her tiny hand out, and slowly patted Hannah's cheek.
Grace was certain she had never seen Hannah smile so brightly before.
