"HANNAH! Hannah! Alex isn't here!"
Grace's scream filled the house, and Hannah immediately knew. This was bad.
She raced to Alex's bedroom to find it empty except for Grace.
"She took Bun-Bun." Hannah noticed.
They dashed through the house, searching in every room, in every closet, behind every curtain.
"Check the backyard!" Hannah said.
"Hannah, she can't open the slide door," Grace said, "She's not here."
Hannah started to cry, the worry and fear threatened to consume her.
"I'm gonna call Mamrie, okay?" Grace said, "I'll call her, and she can call everyone else to go help look for Alex."
It surprised them both how calm Grace was staying.
Soon all of their friends were out there looking for Alex.
Grace brought Hannah a cup of coffee.
"I shouldn't be sitting here," Hannah protested, "I should be looking for her."
Grace sat down next to her, and rubbed her shoulder, "You need to be here in case she comes back."
Hannah started sobbing again, "My baby is out there in her pajama's, barefoot!"
"I know, we'll find her, it's gonna be okay." Grace soothed.
The shrill ringing of Grace's cellphone made them both jump.
"Did you find her?!" Grace almost yelled down the line.
"No," Mamrie's voice came through the speaker, "But it's starting to rain guys. We should call the cops for help."
"We can't!" Hannah argued, "If they find out, they'll take Alex away!"
"Just think about it okay? I'm gonna drive around a bit more, I'll talk to you soon." Mamrie hung up.
"Hannah, if she's out there in the rain, she'll get sick." Grace tried to reason with the blonde.
"I'll never see her again if we call the cops Grace!"
Grace lost it, she had tried her best to stay strong for Hannah. But her own emotions finally got the best of her.
"Hannah! It's fucking past midnight, it's raining, it's dark and our baby girl is fucking out there somewhere!" Grace screamed, "We need to do something!"
"Please Grace!" Hannah pleaded, "Let's just wait a little longer? Please? I can't lose her."
Reluctantly, Grace agreed to wait, "You've got 20 minutes, and then I'm calling the police Hannah, no matter what."
The two fell into a silence, desperately trying to figure out where Alex could be.
"Where would a kid who is completely alone go?" Grace wondered out loud, "She's so smart, she wouldn't just randomly run away. She has to have a plan, right?"
"Oh God," Hannah gasped, "She's been in this situation before."
"What?"
"She's been alone out on the streets before! Grace I know where she is!" Hannah yelled, running out of the house.
Grace followed her out, having a bit of trouble keeping up with the shorter woman.
"Hannah! Where are we going?" Grace yelled.
"The park!"

By the time they got to the park the rain was falling hard.
"She has to be here," Hannah panted, "She has to."
The park was creepy so late at night. There were no lights, making it look like the set of a bad horror movie.
Hannah and Grace briskly walked down the paths, checking under every parkbench.
"She has to be here." Hannah kept chanting.
"Over there!" Grace pointed when they arrived at the deserted playground. Alex was huddled under the slide.
Alex jumped up when she saw them, and started to run away, but the two women were faster than her.
Hannah grabbed the girl, lifting her up and holding her close to her.
Alex started kicking and screaming, "Let me go! Let me go!"
Hannah struggled to keep her grip on the squirming child.
"Stop! Alex! It's just me!" Hannah tried to calm her.
"No! Let go! I'm not going back!" Alex screamed.
"Calm down!" Grace yelled, grabbing Alex's legs so she would stop kicking at Hannah.
"No! No!" Alex screamed, "I'm not going back there! I'm not!"
"What are you talking about?!" Hannah asked.
"I heard you!" Alex accused, "You're sending me back! I heard it!"
"I'm not sending you anywhere Alex! What the hell is going on?!"
"I'm too difficult for you!" Alex cried, "But I'm not going back to Mona! I'm not!"
"Whoa, sweetheart, you've got it all wrong," Hannah said, gently lowering Alex to the ground, "You're not going anywhere."
"You're sending me back!" the child sobbed, "You promised I could stay, and now you're sending me back!"
"Alex no! I'm not!" Hannah tried to sooth the girl, "Chester said that, and we kicked him out for saying that!"
"You're lying!" Alex screamed, "You lie!"
"Baby, I swear I'm not lying," Hannah almost started to cry, "I swear! I need you in my life Alex, I need you. I am not sending you back."
Alex refused to believe her.
"Alessandra, you are the best thing that's ever happened to me," Hannah told her, "And I know that it isn't always easy, sometimes it's really hard, but you are my family, and you are staying with me forever."
"Really?"
"Really," Hannah smiled, "Alessandra, I love you."
Alex's eyes opened wide, "No."
"Yes, I do, I love you. You're my daughter, and I love you. And I should have told you that before, and I will tell you every day from now on, until you believe me." Hannah promised, "Please come home with us?"
The girl nodded.
"Come here my little princess." Hannah opened her arms, and Alex immediately jumped onto her.
"Oh sweetheart you're soaked!" She hadn't noticed it before, but the girl's pajama's were completely wet from the rain. Hannah lifted the sweatshirt of her body, and pulled it over Alex's head.
"There, I don't want you to get sick." Hannah mumbled, "Now, do you want to piggyback back home?
****
Alex was asleep when they got back home, the emotions of the evening proved to be too much for the tiny child. Hannah carried her all the way home, refusing to let Grace take over.
"I texted Mamrie, everyone went back home, but they're happy." Grace whispered.
Hannah only nodded, quickly changing the child in clean, dry pajama's. Alex barely stirred.
There was no doubt in either women's mind that Alex would spend the rest of the night with them. But even as she laid her down in bed, Hannah didn't let go of the girl.
"Hannah?" Grace whispered, but Hannah didn't look away from the kid laying in between them.
Grace got out of bed, and moved to Hannah's side, sliding in behind Hannah. She wrapped her long arms around Hannah, spooning the smaller woman.
As soon as she felt the warmth of Grace around her, Hannah broke down. She sobbed for what felt like hours, hushed and soothed by Grace. Eventually, the blonde cried herself to sleep, but Grace stayed up the entire night, keeping an eye on the two most important people in her life.
