It was morning when Hannah first realized. Not knowing what she should do she called the one person who was sure to have some advice.
"Tyler?"
"Hey Hannah! What's up?" Tyler greeted cheerily.
"I'm gay!"
Tyler's chuckle came down the line, "Is that news?"
"Alex doesn't know!" Hannah exclaimed, "How do I explain that?"
"Oh gurl," Tyler sighed, "Call Sarah and Chester to come over, I'll be at your place in an hour."
"What? Why?"
"We're gonna have a childproof gay-straight panel."

Alex was confused. The four adults sat with her at the table, all looking very serious. This could not be good.
"So, Alex, sweetie," Hannah began, "You know how... uh... do you know what gay means?"
The girl shook her head.
"Okay, so uh gay means that you like someone who's the same gender..." Hannah explained.
Alex's face scrunched up, like it always does when she doesn't understand something.
"Uh, okay, different tactic," Hannah mumbled, "Do you know that boys like girls, and girls like boys?"
Alex nodded, that was something she did know.
"Okay, good," Hannah smiled, nervously, "Well, some boys like, uh, other boys, and some girls like girls, did you know that?"
The girl shook her head.
"Oh, uhm, Alex, baby, what I'm trying to say is, is that I am gay... I like girls..." Hannah sighed.
"And there's nothing wrong with that," Tyler added, "I'm gay too, I only like boys."
"But I am straight," Sarah said, "So that means that I like boys and not girls."
"Me too," Chester added awkwardly, "I mean, I'm straight so I like girls, and not boys."
The little girl sighed heavily, trying to take in all the information. But honestly, she didn't really get what they were trying to say to her.
Hannah gave her a sympathetic look, "It's a bit much, huh? So, Tyler is going to stick around for a bit today, and then you can ask us any questions that you want. Is that good?"
Alex nodded, feeling kind of relieved that they weren't all staying.
She had a fun day with Hannah and Auntie Tyler. She didn't really get why Auntie Mamrie and Auntie Tyler had the same name though. Maybe she could ask Hannah someday.
Tyler left after dinner. Alex hadn't asked any questions, so Hannah assumed all was fine.
She tucked the little girl in, and reached for the book they were reading. Alex stopped her.
"Gay?" she asked in a little voice.
Hannah's heart hammered in her chest, "Yeah, I'm gay."
"Bad?"
"No, it's not bad." Hannah smiled, "It's different though, and being different isn't always easy. Some people aren't nice to gay people, but being gay is not bad."
Alex nodded, "People are stupid."
Hannah laughed, "Yes sweetie, sometimes they are. Do you want your story now?"
