The most wonderful time of the year
Hannah had left early that morning, leaving Grace and Alex before the sun came out. It kinda killed her inside. That's why she was so happy when she finally got home in the afternoon. That, and the fact that it was November 15th, her favorite day of the year.
In every other part of the country, temperatures were dropping, she even heard that there was some snow up north. The most wonderful time of the year indeed.
She quietly entered the house, hoping to sneak up on Grace. Her brunette lover was in the kitchen humming some poppy song that Hannah couldn't care to remember.
Hannah stood still for a minute, admiring Grace. Her Grace. The tall woman was the most beautiful girl in the entire world, Hannah had no doubt about it. But she was so much more than just beautiful. She was funny, caring, sweet, adorably awkward, and the way she would cradle Alex and call her princess made Hannah's heart skip a beat.
She tiptoed up to Grace, smirking mischievously to herself. Her small hands grabbed the familiar hips in front of her and spun the woman around to face her. Grace was still shrieking in surprise when Hannah started singing: "You better watch out! You better not cry! You better not pout, I'm telling you why! Santa Claus is comiiiiing to tooooown!"
"Hannah! You idiot!" Grace slapped her shoulder with a small smile on her face.
Hannah grinned widely, "Hey baby!" She leaned in for a kiss, but Grace pushed her away.
"Nope!" Grace giggled, "You can't scare me like that and expect a kiss Harto!"
Hannah pouted, her fingers squeezing Grace's hips a little tighter, "Ow, come on babe! I'm sorry okay? I'm just excited for Christmas!"
"It's November!" Grace laughed incredulously.
"I know!" Hannah grinned, "Can I have my kiss now please?"
She leaned in again, but Grace pushed her head away, "No!"
"Baaaaaabe!" Hannah whined, grabbing Grace's hands so she couldn't push her away anymore, "Please?"
"No, get off me!" Grace laughed.
"That is so not what she said." Hannah smirked, backing Grace up against the counter.
Grace frowned at her girlfriend, "That 'she' better be me."
"Of course love," the blonde smiled her most dazzling smile and tried to lean in again, keeping a tight grip on Grace's arms.
"Nope! Nope! I'm not kissing you! You scared the shit out of me!" Grace giggled as she moved her head to duck Hannah's attempts at kisses.
Hannah's eyes narrowed, a smirk on her lips, "Oh, I'll get my kiss."
Before Grace could process Hannah's words, hot lips found their way to the base of Grace's neck, suckling softly on that spot. The one that made her mouth fall open, and her knees go weak.
Hannah's mouth moved up to her cheek, and Grace was almost considering giving in and moving her head so Hannah could finally properly kiss her. Almost.
"Eew!" Grace shrieked, jumping away from Hannah, "Did you just fucking lick my face?! Fucking hell Hannah!" Grace vigorously rubbed at her cheek, while Hannah was just cracking up.
"Mommy?"Alex skipped into the kitchen followed closely by Goose.
"Hey there little girl!" Hannah picked her up, "Did you have fun with Mama today?"
Alex nodded.
"Good!" Hannah smiled, "I was thinking we could go shopping for a tree this weekend?"
Grace rolled her eyes, "It's too early babe, it'll be dead before Christmas. We'll buy one in December."
The blonde woman pouted, "But I want one now!"
"Why?" Alex wondered.
Hannah turned her attention back to the girl in her arms, "Because I really like Christmas, and I've been good this year so Santa will bring me lots of presents!"
Grace snorted at Hannah's childlike excitement, but Alex scrunched up her nose, "Why?"
"Uh, because Santa only brings presents if you've been good." Hannah explained.
"Oh..." Alex thought about it for a second, "Who's Santa?"
Hannah's smile dropped, and Grace frowned sadly.
"He, uh, he's that old man with the red clothes? He brings presents on Christmas." Grace said, hoping that the girl had just forgotten about Christmas.
Alex looked down at the ground and it broke the women's hearts to see their little girl so ashamed at not knowing anything about Christmas.
"Don't worry Princess," Grace soothed, "We'll teach you everything about celebrating Christmas. We'll buy a tree, and you get to decorate it, and we can make drawings for Santa, and ask for all the cool presents! Sounds good?"
Alex nodded shyly, her smile finding its way back to her face, "I get to ask?"
"Yeah!" Hannah said, "You get to ask anything you want!"
"Can I ask for you to marry Mama?" Alex wondered. Hannah and Grace shared a shocked look.
"Uh Alex..." Hannah started, not sure what to tell the little girl.
"That's a decision Mama and Mommy need to make without Santa, honey." Grace said quickly.
"Oh... Why?"
"Well sweetheart, when two people love each other, they, uh, they live together, like we do, but, uh, we haven't really been together for that long, so..." Hannah struggled.
Grace saved her from her fumbling awkwardness again, "We'll talk about this again next year, okay? It's too soon now."
Alex pouted, but nodded anyways.
"Would you like a cookie?" Grace asked, knowing exactly how to distract the kid.
"Yessss!"
Hannah put her back on the ground so she could follow Grace to the cookies.
"Come on Goosey!" Alex urged the dog to follow her out as soon as she got the cookie.
"Wanna bet she's feeding half of that cookie to Goose?" Hannah grinned.
Grace laughed, "I don't take sucker bets babe."
Hannah chuckled.
"So Christmas?" Grace brought them back to the sore subject, "What are we going to do?"
Hannah shrugged, "I don't know, on one hand I wanna go all out, and show her all the amazing things about Christmas, but on the other hand, it's still Alex, I don't wanna overwhelm her."
"Hmmm, I'd say go all out." Grace said, "She's come so far, I think she'll be fine."
Hannah's eyes twinkled, "That means mistletoe? Oh! And fairylights? And tinsel? I love tinsel!"
"We could invite Mamrie, and make some ornaments for the tree!" Grace agreed excitedly.
"What about presents? Do we have a budget?"
Grace smirked, "If I gave you a budget, would you be able to stick to it?"
"Uh... no?" the blonde smiled guiltily, "Oh come on! Can you blame me?! She's so cute!"
****
"What's that?" Alex asked holding up a little snowflake-ornament. From the moment they got the boxes with decorations from the attic, Alex had been holding up every single item, asking them to explain it.
Grace rolled her eyes playfully, but Hannah smiled, "It's for the tree sweetheart, I told you, everything that has a little loop on it goes on the tree."
"Okay." Alex dropped the item unceremoniously back into the box, picking up something else, "What's this?"
"Let me see... oh that's a little snowman-lamp. You can put that on the dresser if you want?" Hannah told her.
Alex skipped over to the dresser, all smiles and happiness.
"That is worth every single 'what's this' question." Grace grinned.
Hannah nodded, "It's weird, isn't it. Last year, we didn't even spend Christmas together, and now we're spending it together with our daughter."
"Yeah, god, that still feels so surreal." Grace smiled, "that's our daughter."
Hannah moved so she was sitting next to her girlfriend on the ground and wrapped her arms around her. Grace happily turned her head to accept the kiss.
"I love you so much Grace." Hannah whispered, kissing her once more.
Grace grinned, "I love you too."
"Done!" Alex announced cheerfully, dropping down on her Mama's lap.
"Oh Princess, we're nowhere near done." Grace chuckled, "We still need to hang up the tinsel and the mistletoe, and decorate the tree."
Alex sighed heavily, "Okay."
"Sweetie, if you'd rather go outside and play, that's okay too." Hannah said quickly, "We don't mind."
"No... I wanna help."
"Awesome." Hannah grinned, "You can help me put this wreath on the door."
"Why?" Alex asked, jumping up and grabbing Hannah's hand.
Grace frowned, "I honestly have no idea, it's just something that people do on Christmas."
"Oh... okay." The girl shrugged and tugged on Hannah's hand, "Up?"
The blonde lifted her of the ground. "Come on, I'll let you hang the mistletoe."
"What's that?"
****
"Kissie!" Alex squealed excitedly, waving the mistletoe in Mamrie's face.
Mamrie chuckled and the pulled the little girl on her lap, kissing her cheek. "You're lucky you're so cute Carrot, cause that is literally the fourth time today."
Alex giggled and squirmed off Mamrie's lap, skipping over to Hannah.
"Kissie!"
"Sweetheart..." Hannah groaned, lifting the girl up and kissing her, "You can't keep this up all day."
The little girl frowned, "Yes I can." She shoved the mistletoe between her mothers. "Kissie!"
Grace laughed, but Hannah shook her head, "Nope."
Alex gasped, "You have to Mommy! It's the law!"
"Yeah Mommy." Grace agreed, "You have to."
Hannah tried to hide her grin as she shook her head adamantly, "I don't wanna give Mama a kissie."
"Liar!" Mamrie laughed from the couch.
"Yeah!" Alex poked her cheek, "Liar."
"Fine. I'll give Mama a kiss." Hannah smiled.
She pressed her lips against Grace's, kissing her passionately. Grace moaned in surprise, lifting her hand to caress Hannah's cheek as she deepened the kiss.
"Eeeeeewww! Stop stop!" Alex shrieked, "Gross kissie! Gross! Stop! Stop!"
****
"Babe... Baby?" Hannah grumbled as a soft voice roused her from her sleep, "Sweetheart? Darling? Love? Honey? Munchkin?"
"Don't call me munchkin." The blonde groaned.
She heard Grace chuckle, "Baby, wake up."
"What time is it?"
"Six... but it's Christmas!" Grace grinned.
Hannah shot up, "Christmas?!"
"Yup, merry Christmas babe." Grace kissed her softly.
"Merry Christmas." Hannah smiled widely, kissing her back. "Is the miniature human up yet?"
Grace laughed, "No, but she'll be up soon, right? It's Christmas."
Hannah grinned at Grace's excitement and snuggled up to the woman. "Let's enjoy the quiet while we still can."
"I like the way you think Munchkin."
Hannah playfully shoved the other woman, "Don't call me munchkin."
"Fine then, Oompa Loompa!"
The short woman squeaked indignantly, "I am not an oompa loompa! You're just a freaking giant!"
"Shut up and hold me short stuff."
"You are lucky I love you." Hannah protested softly, wrapping her arms around Grace.
"Yeah I know."
They laid in silence for a while before Hannah started to get antsy.
"What time is it now?" she asked.
"One minute later since you last asked." Grace huffed, "Literally Hannah, it's 6:32."
Hannah whined, "Why isn't she up yet??! It's Christmas!"
Grace shrugged, "Maybe she was tired from decorating?"
"Yeah..." Hannah sighed, "I wanna give her her presents though."
"Should we go and wake her up?" Grace suggested, a twinkle in her eyes.
Hannah was up and out of the bed before she knew it, "Yeah! Come on come on come on!"
"Wait! Let me grab my phone first! I wanna film this!"
"For us? Or for YouTube?" Hannah asked.
"Us. I'll film for the channel later." Grace smiled knowingly before continuing, "So you don't have to put on pants yet."
Hannah smirked, "See, that's why I love you."
"Shut it Oompa Loompa. Let's go wake up the Princess."
Grace darted out of their bedroom, leaving Hannah grumbling about NOT being an Oompa Loompa.
"Okay, okay, quiet now. I don't want to scare her." Grace shushed her as they snuck into the girl's bedroom.
"Alex? Princess?" Hannah whispered, "Wake up little girl."
Alex grumbled unhappily in her sleep, turning her head away from Hannah.
"She gets that from you." Hannah deadpanned, making Grace chuckle.
"Princess." Grace tried, "It's Christmas. And I think I heard Santa last night! Should we go check out what he brought you?"
"Christmas??" Alex opened her eyes.
"And she gets that from you." Grace laughed.
"Shut up." Hannah smiled, turning her attention back to their daughter, "Yeah baby, want to come open presents?"
"Yes please." Alex whispered cutely, wrapping her arms around Hannah's neck so she could be carried to the living room.
Alex gasped when she saw the tree. Hannah and Grace had gone berserk with the presents and they were everywhere, wrapped in colorful paper complete with the bows Hannah insisted on.
Hannah put the girl on the ground, "Go on." She encouraged gently.
Alex bit her lip, "Which one is mine Mommy?"
Grace chuckled, "I think they are all for you Princess. Santa must think you've been really good this year."
"You want to open them?" Hannah gave her a gentle push.
Alex nodded, but still didn't really move, "Which one do I open first?"
"You pick." Grace smiled.
Alex looked over the pile with gifts, picking up the smallest present first, "Can I do this one?"
Hannah nodded and Alex carefully tried to open the gift.
"Just tear the paper Princess." Grace said.
Hannah reached out and helped the girl unwrap the present.
"Oh wow!" Alex gasped, revealing a little doll, "Look Mommy, it's pretty."
"Yes it is." Hannah grinned widely.
"Go on Alex," Grace goaded, handing the girl another gift, "Open this one!"
Their morning ended with Alex sitting in a huge pile of wrapping paper, cheering Hannah on as the blonde tried to install the training wheels on the girl's brand new pink bicycle.
"I told you to do it last night." Grace chuckled.
Hannah stuck her tongue out at Grace, making Alex giggle loudly.
"There," Hannah stepped away to admire her work, "I think it's done."
"Can I try?" Alex asked eagerly.
"After breakfast, okay?" Grace said, "Besides, I think Mommy still has to open her present!" Grace pulled a gift from behind her back and handed it to Hannah.
Hannah smiled widely, ripping the package excitedly.
"A tablet?" Hannah asked confused.
"It's a digital photoframe baby. Turn it on!"
Hannah carefully pushed the button and the frame came to live.
"Oh wow!" Hannah smiled, seeing the picture of her and Alex on the screen.
"I loaded all the pictures I took of you and Alex on it." Grace said, "See? That one is from when we went to the ocean for the first time. And that one's from when we went to the park and that guy tried to hit on me."
Hannah stared at the screen, grinning as the pictures sled by. "I didn't even know we had that many photos. Thank you so much babe, this is amazing."
"You're welcome sweetie."
"My present for you now!" Hannah picked up a heavy looking present and a smaller on, "Here you go baby, open the small one first?"
Grace opened the present quickly, revealing a long jewelry box.
She laughed, "Did you buy me a statement necklace?"
The younger woman grinned, "I did. Open it, see if you like it."
Grace smiled and opened the box, admiring the sparkly necklace. "It's very beautiful Hannah."
"Yeah? I did some research, and uh, that stone is supposed to be your birthstone, and that one in the middle is Alex's, and that one is mine..." Hannah pointed out.
"It's very pretty Mama." Alex smiled.
Hannah blushed, "Well, I got you something else too, just in case..."
Grace put the necklace down , and unwrapped the other gift. "What is this? A book?"
"Open it babe."
Grace opened it, and gasped loudly, "Baby!"
"It's every drawing Alex made of you... I kept them all, and I thought you might want them..." Hannah smiled sheepishly.
"This is beautiful... Baby, this is the best present ever..."
Hannah grinned, "I'm glad you like it."
"Alex, Princess, close your eyes for a bit."
"Why?" The girl frowned.
"Cause I'm gonna give Mommy a very gross kissie."
****
"Okay, okay." Hannah stood behind Alex, "Just be careful, okay?"
"Yes Mommy!" Alex sighed, gripping the steer a little tighter.
"Is your helmet on properly?" Grace asked, tugging on the straps to check.
"Yes Mama!" If the girl could, she would have rolled her eyes at Grace.
Grace grinned and took a step back, "Well, go on then Princess."
Alex grinned widely, and put her feet on the pedals. Hannah gave her a little push to get started, and off she went, riding her little bike on the driveway.
The smaller woman wrapped her arm around Grace, smiling widely, "Look at her riding her bike. She's so amazing at everything."
"It's still with training wheels though."
"Doesn't matter." Hannah mused, "She's still amazing."
Grace nodded, "Yeah she is. Just like her Mommy."
"And her Mama."
They kissed slowly, "Merry Christmas baby."
"Merry Christmas Gracie."
