Mamrie got out of her car, "You better have a really good reason to drag me to a Mommy and Me store, Hannah!"
"Hey Mametown," Hannah laughed, "I just need to buy some stuff I didn't think of before."
"I'm just messing with you," Mamrie smiled, "I really don't mind. Now, what do we need, mommy?"
Hannah chuckled as she walked around the store, "A highchair, some bibs, plastic cutlery, and sippy cups."
"Sippy cups? Isn't Alex too old for those?"
"I don't know dude," Hannah shrugged, "But she spilled her juice last weekend, and she was so scared that I would get pissed, so I thought it'd be a good idea."
"Yeah, I guess," Mamrie smiled, feeling oddly proud of her younger namesake, "What else do kids need?"
"I honestly have no idea," Hannah grimaced, "I figured I'd just buy what I need when I need it?"
"I guess that will work," Mamrie shrugged, "What about a stroller? You'll definitely need one of those."
Hannah and Mamrie started to look at the different models.
"How the heck does this work?" Mamrie questioned, "It's supposed to be a stroller, not a fucking rocket!"

Hannah was glad she asked Mamrie along, because God knows her car wasn't big enough to move all the stuff she bought.
"Who knew that such a tiny child would need so much shit." Mamrie muttered, trying to fit a highchair in her trunk.
"If you hadn't insisted on buying all those toys, we'd be fine." Hannah laughed.
Mamrie raised an eyebrow, "They aren't toys! They're cute fluffy towels that make your child look like a duckie, you will be thanking me for them later on."
Hannah chuckled, "Come on, I'm taking you out for food. My treat"

The next day Hannah sat in her social worker's office. She felt nervous. Her social worker, Ben, was rummaging through his desk in search of her file.
"Ha! Found it!" He smiled triumphantly.
"Let's see..." He mumbled, rifling through the papers, "Oh yes! I remember! So, I had a little chat with Alessandra yesterday. She's got quite the shiner."
"Uh, yeah, it happened at the orphanage, I wasn't around or anything." Hannah explained nervously.
"Oh no, I know what happened, don't worry," Ben smiled, "I just wanted to break the ice a bit... Anyways, apart from that obvious bruised eye, she seemed really happy."
"She did?" Hannah asked, relieved.
"Yeah, I've never seen her so relaxed," Ben said, "She was even having a conversation with her stuffed rabbit when I walked in."
"Mr Bun-Bun." Hannah interrupted.
"Excuse me?"
"Her rabbit, his name is mr Bun-Bun." She explained.
Ben looked amused, "Well, I've never heard her talk before, or seen her do anything that looks like playing, so I'd say that that is your influence Hannah. You are really good for her."
Hannah grinned at the compliment.
"And that is why you are granted the temporary custody over Alessandra Rodriguez." Ben smiled.
Hannah mouth fell open, "Are you serious? I thought it would take at least another month!"
"Normally, yes. But this is a special case. Alessandra is obviously not doing well in that orphanage, and she is striving in your care." The man smiled, "You just need to sign these papers, and then you can go pick her up."
Hannah quickly scribbled her name on the documents.
"Great!" Ben cheered, "Now, in one month, you'll need to come to the family court, and if nothing really bad has happened, you'll be granted full custody over Alessandra. I have no doubt that everything will work out."
"Thank you so much." Hannah said, choking up.
Ben shrugged, "It's your accomplishment Hannah. Now, go pick your fosterchild up."

"Hannah? Visiting hours aren't until this afternoon." Mona said, fake smile plastered on her face, "I'm afraid you'll have to leave."
"I don't think so." Hannah smiled, handing her custody papers to Mona.
"Oh," Mona arched an eyebrow, "That's unexpected."
Hannah grinned widely, feeling completely giddy.
"Come in," Mona gestured, "I'll go get Alessandra ready. She hasn't packed or anything, it can take a while."
"I'll do that." Hannah interrupted, "I will help her, she's my kid after all."

It was the first time Hannah was allowed in the dorms. The room looked like it came out of the Annie movie, just a row of beds, each with a nightstand and that's it. It was sad.
"Okay, sweetie, which bed is yours?"
Alex led her to her own bed, which was is in the farthest corner of the room. Typically Alex.
"So, how do you feel about all this?" Hannah asked, while emptying Alex's nightstand.
Alex gave her thumbs up.
"You like it?" Hannah smiled, "Me too. It's all a bit sudden though."
The little girl nodded in agreement, shoving her possessions in the bag Hannah brought.
"Alessandra, if it ever becomes too much, or if it goes too fast, just tell me okay?" Hannah said, "I don't want to force you into anything."
Alex smiled softly, nodding her head.
"Good," Hannah smiled feeling relieved, "Now, where's the rest of your stuff?"
Alex looked confused, before shaking her head.
"What do you mean?" Hannah asked surprised, "Is this all?" Hannah pointed at the little pile of clothes.
Alex nodded.
"I guess that means we'll have to go shopping soon." Hannah shrugged, "Do you have everything?"
Nod.
"Are you sure?"
Another nod.
"Let's go home then sweetheart."
