EMMA found me in my spot in the library. I was reading twilight. Yeah, like every other girl in the world it was my comfort book. Bella was lucky; Edward saw passed her flaws. Even though I guess, she was actually beautiful despite her thoughts on it. Maybe I should have found another comfort book.

The bell had already rung and students were spreading thin as they left for home. But who cared. All I had waiting for me back home was a father who didn't like me and a house that was too quiet. Since Aurora turned thirteen, all she did was stay at friends houses -not that I blamed her for leaving us alone. I just missed her when I was home so I tended to avoid it when I could.

"Ashton's mad at you." Emma informed me, sitting with me on the beanbag chair. "He's being a major lunatic about it."

My eyebrows pinched together at his name, "Ashton can go die from a sexually transmitted disease for all I care." I placed the book back on the shelf by my head, grumbling angrily under my breath.

Emma frowned with a sigh, "You going home anytime soon?" Her blue eyes watched me warily.

I shook my head, swallowing the lump that was in my throat. "I think I'll stay here until the swim meet is done." Was it bad I knew all of the extracurricular activities and times they ran to? Yes.

She nodded her brown head in understanding. "Do you want any company?" She bit her bottom lip, readjusting herself on the slouching chair.

Once again I shook my head, smiling politely at her, "Don't worry about it, Emma. Go home and tell your mom I said hi." Standing up from the red chair, I held my hand out for her.

She took it, letting me help her to her feet, "You know you can come with me..." Emma suggested quietly, starting to walk away while still facing me.

"I like it here. It's peaceful," I chuckled convincingly, "Plus my house is a two minute walk from here; if Aurora needs anything she can find me easier this way." I knew she wouldn't... But just in case.

Emma went on her way after a few more tries, leaving me to the practically empty school and my thoughts. After growing tired of reading, I found myself walking along the silver and purple lockers, admiring the mural of our school mascot; the basilisk. The huge reptile was known as the king of serpents -causing death with a single glance. Quite fitting for our schools reputation. We hadn't lost a game yet this year.

"Penny for your thoughts?" A familiar voice startled me as I spun around.

Liam stood at the end of the hallway near the gymnasium, his hair drenched and a towel draped over his shoulder.

"Just admiring our badâss mascot." I grinned as he swung a large bag over his shoulder. "Just getting done with football practice?"

He nodded, standing beside me as he looked up at the intimidating serpent. He smelled amazing; like cologne and coconut scented soap. "Ash is a jerk, Ailie. Don't listen to him, okay?" He said, keeping his eyes on the purple and silver painting.

I could feel my face heat up. Why would he say that? I peeked at him from the corner of my eye. He was very handsome. His cheeks and nose had spots of freckles that he had gained from being in the sun so much. His skin was a nice golden tan, bringing out the specks of gold in his eyes. If his hair wasn't dyed, he would have had soft brown hair. Instead, his hair was cut in an undercut with the sides dyed purple and the longer wavy (and wet) hair dyed silver. It actually looked kind of awesome. And of course, being a football player meant he worked out daily and it showed.

He turned to me when I didn't say anything, "He has a lot going on right now," he scratched the back of his head with a grimace on his face. "He's just taking it out on you for some stupid reason."

My head cocked to the side, wondering how Liam knew that. Ashton wasn't very social besides his adventures with girls -he didn't keep company unless sex was involved. Everyone knew that.

Liam seemed to understand my questioning expression as the corner of his mouth slightly turned up, "Ash and I go way back. We practically grew up together. When we started high school that's when everything got rough for the guy." He shrugged sympathetically. "We stopped being friends but our families have always been close so I know stuff I probably shouldn't. So believe me when I say he's just being a jerk. It has nothing to do with you besides the fact he seemed to pick you to be the one he's taking it out on." His hand ruffled my hair making it all messy from my bun. "I'll see you tomorrow, Ailie." He flushed pink again before turning around to walk to the schools entrance. I wondered if he knew it was Friday?

Liam was nice. He was different from the rest of the popular crowd. He didn't seem to care about his image. He was sweet.

With a loud exhale, I readjusted my book bag and then my glasses. It was time to go home for the weekend. I just hoped my father was already too drunk to acknowledge me. He always drank excessively on Fridays.
