"LEE! I'm home!" My sisters adorable voice shouted into the house as I sat on the kitchen counter.

A grin immediately grew on my face. "I'm in the kitchen, hon!" I swiftly called out, swirling the phone cord around my finger as I tried to keep up with both conversations at once. As tempted as I was to go running and colliding into my sister, family was sometimes such a nuisance. "Hey, sorry about that, Aunt Mel." I rolled my eyes with a small annoyed smile now on my face as she continued her story about my baby cousin saying his third word --'no'. I bet she won't be so excited about it in thirteen years.

Aurora slid in on her unmatched socks from the hallway, her clothes wrinkled and bunched like the wild child everyone knew and loved. Her black hair was a long curly mess, flung to the side without a care as her green eyes sparkled happily at me.

Dropping her school bag lazily in the middle of the Brazilian Walnut hardwood kitchen flooring, she once again smoothly sailed on towards the stainless steel fridge. "You'll never believe what happened to Alana today." She began to gossip, tossing her beautiful hair into a high ponytail as she bit down on an apple.

Holding up my finger to her while I stuck my tongue out to gesture my boredom, she giggled, turning her attention to the radio on the far away counter. We had a huge kitchen. With soft yellow walls and dark wooden cabinets, it was easily one of my favourite rooms besides my own. It was practically half of the house. My mother was an amazing cook; she even had plans to open her own restaurant. Everything from the colourful inspirational quotes on the wall and the window seat with pretty orange throw pillows, screamed my mom. It was like stepping back into time before everything fell to pieces.

"Honey, when are you and that sister of yours coming down to see us?" My aunt suddenly sprung out on me, "It's been longer than a year, Ailie. You two haven't even met Jonathan yet." She sighed, talking about her son she was just babbling on about.

Melissa was my moms younger sister. Besides little John, she had two other children with her husband Ryan. Claire, who was a year younger than Aurora (twelve), and Daniel, fifteen. They were a very lovely family.

That's why it hurt so much to be with them. They were what our family would have looked like had my mother not-

"I know it's hard, my sweet girl." She said quietly and understandingly as I watched my sister dance to a One Direction song without a care as her hair flew everywhere even with the elastic in to hold it back. "But we should be sticking together and helping one another out." She said confidently as my eyes watered and chest ached. "Why don't you and Rory come down this weekend? Ryan and Danny will be down in the next town over on Friday for Danny's football game, they can take a little detour and pick you up before heading back home. I can set it up with your father and you won't need to worry about a thing. Just get your little tushes down here!" She finished the spontaneous plan with a musical laugh that was almost identical to moms.

I closed my eyes and listened to it, pretending that she was still there with her happy-go-lucky attitude that everything would turn out just fine no matter what. I opened my eyes with a sigh, catching my sisters attention. I had to try, didn't I? For mom and especially for my sister.

"What do you say about going over to Aunt Mel's this weekend, Rora?" I asked, kicking my feet up and down as I pulled anxiously at the old-fashioned coiled cord. My eyes landed on the tiny girl with her finger on her chin in contemplation. "I'm sure I could convince Aunt Mel to give us a few hours of shopping down there --I know how much you've been dying to get away." I smiled, as my sister bit her lip, being swayed by the idea.
