God, my head hurt.
I swore I didn't drink enough for this, and yet bits and pieces of my night fuzzed and furled at the edges like a burning photograph.
My eyes wondered over the perfect half naked body beside me. Some parts of the night were clearer than others.
As if sensing my stare, he flipped over, pulling me into his chest with a sigh. His hands gently massaged my scalp as I closed my eyes in thought.
"Cassie." Liam breathed out, his voice whispering onto my skin as he breathed me into him.
Wait. What?
"Cassie." I repeated, opening my eyes with a large exhale. Where did I hear that name before?
Unwrapping myself from Liam's warmth, I quickly covered him up with the blanket on his bed.
"Cassie." I shook my head, chuckling to myself a bit.
What did I expect? That his drunken slur was what he really meant?
Liam's face contorted suddenly, his eyebrows stitching together while he spasmed. "No, no, n-no." His head frantically shook as I stared in shock. "Don't go. D-don't leave me. Not again."
"Whoa." I immediately sat down on the bed, grabbing his head as I ran my fingers through his hair. "It's okay." My lips whispered against his ear, feeling his body ease with my touch and yet he was still thrashing himself awake.
"Cassie!" His brown eyes popped open, glassy with wetness before turning into his pillow and punching his mattress. "Fuck." He growled into the cushion, punching the mattress harder.
"Liam." Without thinking about it I wrapped my arms around him, burying my head into his neck. "It was just a dream."
Liam caught his breath, his body shaking from the sobs he was clearly hiding from me. "I'm so sorry, Allie." He mumbled sincerely as he turned his head towards the wall. "I get these dreams sometimes."
"It's okay. You don't need to explain." Placing a kiss on his head, I sat up to give him some space.
He rolled over, revealing his reddened face to me. Tears dampened his cheeks and decorated his long eyelashes while redness tainted the white around the warm brown.
My heart broke.
"She was my best friend." He whispered, his heart visibly breaking inside of his eyes. "She was everything."
Nodding, I traced his face gently. Trying to comfort him with the soft touch.
"I'm sorry." He closed his eyes as the tears on his eyelashes pooled under his eyes.
Caressing his cheek and leaning down, my lips brushed against the wetness before they found his lips. It felt so natural and yet so undiscovered—comforting the always happy and silly boy.
His fingers tangled into my hair, pulling me down into his warm body. His lips opened, Turing the comforting kiss into something deeper and more intimate. The salt of his tears coated my tongue as he pulled me over him so that our legs were tangled together and my arms were holding onto his neck for dear life. My heart soared as his hands fell down my body, reaching the zipper of my skirt.
