So, as if having my father die wasn't that big of a deal, my mother dropped an even bigger bomb on me.
" You're starting High school today," she sang turning the light on in my room. I turned over and gurgled something rude before I looked up at her.
" What the heck? What time is it anyways?" In the morning, my mother looked strangely beautiful. But then again, my opinion is biased since she's my mom and all.
" Oh," she sighed deeply, shrugging at me, " just five in the morning." I looked at her like she had just sprouted wings before I rolled back over and shut my eyes.
"No," I rumbled. I was being serious, but my witch of a mother laughed at me.
" Oh, this was so not up for discussion! Get up, you have two hours before Cooper comes by."
" Cooper," I yawned, sitting up. " Why is he coming?"
" He's taking you to school." She twiddled her fingers at me in an alarming way. My eyes widened in shock and I threw back my blankets.
" Mom, no. You are not doing the matchmaker thing again." She laughed at me again.
" I am your mother, Calla. You can't tell me what I'm 'not going to do'. " She added quotations to my quote which really pissed me off. This woman was lucky I had to respect her.
" You can't make me like him," I said simply as I stretched and began to pull clothes out for school. Oops, I mean prison.
" I suppose you might think that," my mother said on her way out of my room. I glared at her back as she exited, gathered my clothes, and got ready for a shower.
About two hours later, I was dressed for my first day and sitting at the counter in the kitchen. I crunched on a wonderful granny smith apple and drummed my fingers on the counter-top. I'll admit I was anxious, but I wasn't nervous. Honestly I knew I would have to start school soon, but I didn't think it would be this soon. My mother was tidying the, already spotless, den and humming one of the most annoying songs I had ever heard. ( My mother's like a walking headache.)
I sat there for another fifteen minutes or so before Cooper actually came, and when he arrived I practically flew out the front door. I darted off the porch and down the path and too Cooper's car as fast as possible. I didn't notice he had a pick up until I hoisted myself into the seat and slammed the truck door.
" Woah," he chuckled. I rolled my eyes and set my head back against the seat.
" Just drive," I groaned. He laughed at me again, and then pulled out of the drive way.
I was quiet as he drove down the hill, I was too busy trying to calm my bouncing nerves. I always felt this way on the first day of school, even if I knew all the people there. However, in that school I wouldn't know anyone and I never had to go through that before. Cooper reached over and pushed my shoulder, that awarded him my attention.
" Don't worry, Calla. The high school is amazing, you're going to love being a ram." Wait..excuse me?
" A ram?" I couldn't help but giggle at him. He looked over at me with a mighty serious expression.
" Hells yeah! Mineral Wells is home of the Mighty Rams! " He put his fingers on his head, curling them into fake horns. That wasn't smart, seeing as he took both hands of the wheel to do this. Luckily, though, he caught the wheel before the car swerved. I shook my head at him and looked out the window.
" I'm so excited," I teased. He laughed and reached over to turn up the radio filling the car with god awful country music.
" Ew," I groaned and tried to accept that I might be hearing a lot of this. I failed.
