Tao
"Hold onto that tree and don't let go" I shout to my younger sisters who were fearfully grabbing my arms.
Selei the older of the two grabbed the tree and started to climb. "Mele you have to let go" I say to my six year old sister, as her nails dig into my arm. "I don't want to" she pleaded, desperate not to let go. I felt my hand start to slip off the tree and I knew I wouldn't be able to hold on much longer.
"Mele, please" I say with a urgency to my voice. I cringe as a wooden board crashes against my legs making me almost lose balance. "Selei!" I shout. Quick as a flash Selei reaches down and grabs Mele proceeding to climb upwards, at that exact moment another wave of water hits me and I'm getting pulled under.
I've never been on a roller coaster before but I'm guessing, this is what it would be like.
As I went under my brain switched onto auto pilot and I pushed up quickly from the ground, scanning the area to see if there was anything to hang onto, further ahead I see a small tree that looks like it would be able to hold my weight; for awhile anyway.
As I am pulled closer I grab hold and squeeze my eyes shut, I don't want to see my fate. I don't want to die.
However another flood of water hits me and I go under but still hang on, this is water I have never seen before, its hard to beat. "TAO.......Tao!" I hear off in the distance. It's almost impossible to hear above the roar of the water. And although it doesn't sound like Selei, I know it's her. Looking up I see them, high above me in a tall tree, but the tree want hold them forever, although its tall its weak. "Selei!" I shout but by the expression on her face I guess she hasn't heard me. I scream out in frustration. but this time her face brightens then a look of concern thunders in to her 12 year old face. She's heard me. Looking at the tree I see a man in probably what was a Fluro yellow T-shirt. I remember him. He spoke at a fair we had a year ago, though I couldn't remember what for. Frustrated I decided that what ever it was for, it must have been for some good cause. Another wave of water pulled me under and I knew it would only be a matter of time before I let go, and I needed to know my sisters would be alright, so with all I had I shouted, "Selei......SELEI! listen to me, go with that man, he will take you home" and on that note I let go and the water carried me on, as I thought of home.
