CHAPTER 3: what else?

Mele

Just because I'm 6 doesn't mean I don't know anything. For instance when Tao told me to climb the tree I knew it was going to be the last time I would most likely ever see him. How I knew this you ask. His eyes. I know it sound stupid but to tell you the truth, everything I think is stupid (according to Selei, who thinks I'm simple). It's the same with Selei, when she told me to go with Mr Fuzzy-head over here, I saw in her eyes she wasn't thinking, and there was nothing I could do to stop her.

I heard my scream fill the air as the branch shook from the jump of my sister, and it felt like a minute had gone by till I heard her hit the water. "Noooo" I screamed, and I did what any young child was known to do, I let that little tsunami inside my eyes take control, and I cried.

Filiki

In awe I stared at where that young girl had been and then looked at the little crying girl. She is so small and I could tell would be very beautiful when she is older. I sighed to myself but felt the tree shift under me. Frowning I looked at the swirling water below me. This tree wasn't going to hold much longer. I thought to myself.

"We have to go, this tree is going to fall" I shouted up to the little girl. She just stared at me as if I was speaking a different language. Maybe I was, maybe she wasn't Samoan, maybe she was a tourist. No...she definitely wasn't a tourist, despite the tsunami, they weren't that fazed about where to run, it was almost as if this land was their backyard and they knew it like the back of their hand.

These children are the jewels of Samoa, or so I thought.
