Chapter 11

Mele

I felt I had been stabbed in the heart, then again I'm not sure if it was from all that running, or the trust that had been broken.

'"Cale" I say chocking on his name.

That word! I have to forget it. How could he, I thought he couldn't be broken, that's why I trusted him, not because he was kind to me, after all Filiki was nice to me and see how that turned out. He basically turned Cale to get some information out of me!

My mind instantly went to the scene I saw two days ago

The walls of the hallway are brightly painted, but I can sense that something evil is being planned, as the corridor although colourful, is empty.

I hear muffled voices in Meredith's office. As I edge closer I hear my name been said.

"Look Cale, we need information on this girl before we can even start to track her past, if not she will be here forever and always, and you know what it's like to be stuck somewhere you don't want to be"

It sounded like Filiki's voice.

"But how! She never talks about her past, no matter what I say!"

My throat goes tight, of course Cale's there, I just didn't expect him to go along with it.

"Just do what you do, play, laugh make her trust you!" I hear Meredith's voice pipe in.

"No I won't! She will talk when she is ready!" Go Cale, I think to myself.

"But Cale, we know you know how it feels to want information of a person, after all your family is dying to come see you" Meredith says

"WHEN!" I jump at the loudness and eagerness of his voice.

"Well you'll just have to find out wont you, I guess you can always do a trade? Info for info?"

I shiver when I realise that he must have nodded when they asked him that question, which meant he broke my trust in him before he had time to earn it.

I scream out I anger, he was playing along the whole time!

But then again so was I, I played as if I could trust him, I told him secrets, he listened, the whole time reporting back! I thought he was not to be broken, as I heard the words of a bribe being struck, I thought he wasn't agreeing.

Some friend he turned out to be.

I suddenly realise where I am, I look down at the grave below me

Nara starling

Lost at sea

Forever darling brother and son

Lost to sea too young

Do you notice how there's no date, that's because the don't even know when they died, or how. All they know Is that their ship of which they owned, was found, face down about forty kilometres from the bay, only holding 1 thing, one thing survived.

No trace of life other than that one thing but no trace of death either, that was 4 years ago, I was two, I don't remember a thing, not even them, but I remember all those nights that Selei and Tao would make me remember, forcing me to walk 3 kilometres to get to this place, making me try to remember.

They wouldn't let me forget, where I was, when disaster struck.
