Chapter 10

Peter's POV

I went to help Matt with his work, but once I got there he wasn't in the tent. I assumed he went for his weekend walk it was a beautiful day, and if I knew Matt he'd hop out of his chair to be a part of it. I walked back out of his tent, shutting the opening behind me.
The trees covered over the camp protecting us from the sun, sadly not the heat. Sweat trickled down my face, I wipe it away, I better go help gather wood for tonight's bonfire. We have a bonfire once every two weeks dancing and having fun. I haven't danced in a while, I don't necessarily want to. It's for the boys to take a break and just have fun.
As I wake up from my thoughts I hear yelling and see a few boys running towards the east part of camp. I drop the wood in my hands near the fire place and check out the commotion.
"Someone go get Andrew and hurry!!" I heard Matt yell in a worried tone. Boys circled around hovering over someone, Levi rushes to the infirmary. I walk quickly over pushing to get in the middle. I see Matt holding Allison in his arms. Both were soaking wet and Matt was out of breath, Allison was literally out of breath, she was unconscious. She only had a swimsuit on. Did she drown? Can she not swim? I kneel down checking her pulse, nothing, I take her from Matt's arms and carry her towards the infirmary.
"What the hell happened?" I asked Matt seriously. As we sped walked to the tent.
"I went for a walk and I heard something at the waterfall and I saw..." He paused with wide eyes he looked straight into mine. "Mermaids... They were drowning the poor thing."
"ALI!" I heard a voice nearly scream, I look to see Aaron, Andrew running behind him. I gently set Ali in Matts arms and grab Aaron and walk him aside he didn't need to see this. I heard him crying, "What happened?! Will Ali be okay?"
His cries were heart aching, I held him as he sobbed almost screaming into my shirt. I watch Matt carry Ali running to the infirmary. I pet the back of his head trying to soothe him. "Shhh it's going to be alright. Hey listen Aaron look at me, just look at me." He slowly looked at me with teary red eyes. I try to smile. "Ali will be fine I won't let her die. Why don't you wait in your tent I promise to come in and tell you what's going on ok?"
"But .. I-I want .. To see .. Ali." He hiccuped trying to speak, his voice cracked. I hug him again he holds on tight.
"You can once we help her I'll come and get you." I calmly assure him, I stand up as he looks to the ground sniffing he nodded slowly he walked towards his tent looking at the ground hugging himself. Once I see him enter his tent, I walk to the infirmary.
As I walk in I see Andrew doing CPR, pumping his palms roughly on her chest, then blowing into her mouth. After a while of doing this process, he gave up. No heart beat left. Andrew stopped. But I didn't give up, he had taught me what to do. I pump 30 Compressions into the chest using most my weight, then I tilt the chin up holding the nose and blowing into her mouth. After my try of a few times I knew it was no use. Andrew left the room with Matt following behind, what will Aaron think? I've failed him. I rest my head on the table where her lifeless body lay.
Anger grew I didn't care for her, I cared what Aaron thought, he was part of camp. I look at her body, I wished she would move. Aaron found his lost sister and he lost her again. I saw a blue light in the corner of my eye. I turned towards it, my eyes grew wide my left hand glowed bright blue. My veins budged and glowed. Lightning swirled around it, I touched it with my right hand and immediately got shocked. I thought for a moment and looked at Ali. Her skin pale, her hair still soaked with water. She was beautiful... I shook my head. I looked back at her, maybe there was hope.
I touched her chest with my left hand and see her body jerk upwards. I do it once, twice, and three times. Her body jerks upwards. Her eyes open with shock, coughing out water, Andrew and Matt come rushing in as my hand stopped glowing. Ali's breath was ragged and uneven, she looked around the room confused.
I lay her back down on her back. Andrew comes over and checks on Ali. Matt stays a good enough distance but watches intently, worried. Andrew looks at me curious, how did you do that?
I look at my hand, I shook my head, I haven't got the slightest idea. As Andrew checked on her, I left to see Aaron. I walking into the tent to see him pacing, tears running down his cheeks.
"Aaron she's fine, Andrews checking up on her. Do you want ..?" He interrupted me by running out of the tent and without hesitation ran into the infirmary with me right behind him. Ali looked at Aaron as he ran into the room, he ran into her arms, it made me feel warm..
"I'm so sorry Ali this is all my fault." Aaron apologized. Sobbing into Ali, she was holding him telling him it wasn't his fault. I noticed all she was wearing was a swim suit, she was shivering. I sigh and take off my shirt and hand it to her. I was burning up anyway.
"Here you must be cold." I cross my arms and look over to the infirmary door. I look back at Ali and she her face bright red, she took the shirt and put it on. "Thank you." She said quietly. I walk out, staring straight ahead.
I see Scott walking past me with worry written all over his face. He looks at me confused that I don't have a shirt on. "Hey man is she okay? What happened and why don't you have a shirt on?"
"Ali is fine, she just had an incident." I walked away annoyed. He looked at me still confused, "Yea but why don't you have a shirt?"
"You'll find out soon enough." I say over my shoulder. I walk to my tent and get a new shirt. As I walk back out I'm face to face with Matt.
"Hey thanks for being brave out there you did good." I pat his back in appreciation.
"Peter." He looks into my face with a serious expression with slight worry. "I need to tell you something, and you may not like it."
