Ali's POV
I stare at the tent wall as water from my wet hair drips down my back. Sending a shiver down my spine. The shirt Peter letting me wear covered me like a dress, it was surprisingly warm. I glance down at the little sobbing boy in my arms, I comb his hair softly with my fingers. With Aaron lying down on my lap it was a bit difficult for Andrew to check up on me.
"You realize you're really lucky, right?" I hear Andrew speak through the silence. I look up at him, I see his brown eyes looking at me with concern.
"What exactly happened?" I questioned him, he shrugged continuing his work.
"Your guess is good as mine. I only saw you unconscious in Peter and Matt's arms." I furrowed my eyebrows.
"I was in Peter AND Matt's arms?" I asked with a puzzled look. Andrew smiles and shakes his head.
"I saw you in Peter's arms before Aaron came to see what was going on. Peter put you with Matt to go comfort Aaron." He pointed to the crying mess in my arms. It was silent for a moment, until someone came rushing into the tent.
"Allison?" I heard a familiar voice call.
"Scott?" I call back, looking the direction I heard him. He came rushing over to me, he looked worried.
"Ali! Are you hurt? Can you breath? God I'm going to kill those mermaids myself. No one hurts a friend of mine." I look up at him, confused once again. Why is he so riled up?
"Mermaids?" I look at Andrew who's mouth was ajar.
"You don't remember?" Scott knelt down by the bed. I shook my head. Mermaids?
"Matt told me everything." He paused looking down at the ground. "He said he was on the way to camp from a walk when he heard laughter. He went to go investigate and he saw mermaids drowning you. He killed one off, the rest swam away and so he got you and ran to camp."
I was speechless, Aaron sat up in surprise. We stared at Scott for what felt like forever until Aaron spoke up.
"This is all my fault." His voice squeaked. Tears fell down his cheeks. I pulled him into a hug.
"Shush. Don't say that." I said gently. "No it's not your fault, you didn't know this would happen."
"But..." He continued his self blame.
"Shhh. Stop." I covered his mouth with my hand. I felt Scott's hand on my back.
"Andrew is she ok?" Scott looked up at Andrew.
"Physically, yes, she coughed the water from her lungs but I'll have to watch her to see if anything gets worse." Andrew started to put his tools in a case. Scott nodded and started to rub my back, which was comforting.
"How are you feeling?" He continues to rub my back.
"My lungs are burning but other than that I feel fine." I give him an assuring smile, he gives me a genuine smile.
After a while Aaron falls asleep, Scott leaves after a long conversation. He said the sun was already setting, he needed to get ready for the Bon fire.
I wake Aaron up and tell him to go help with the fire. After a long argument he finally left, he said he'd be back and I just shook my head.
"Andrew?" He hummed an answer. "Do you think I could go to the Bon fire?"
He looked at me with one eyebrow up. I sit up my legs hanging off the edge of the table. "I'm not sure, are feeling up to dancing around a fire?"
"Maybe I could just watch." I shrugged. "Sit on the sidelines."
"I guess but you never know." He gave a playful smile. I tilt my head in question.
"The boys love to dance around the Bon fire. There might be some who would want you to dance." He gave me a playful wink and finished up what he was doing.Peter's POV
"You're joking right? You're bloody joking! Please tell me you're joking." I couldn't believe my own ears. This can't be happening. Hook can't be back.
"I'm afraid I'm not, I know what I saw. Those sails, that flag. It was him and I know it." Matt looked at me straight in the eyes. I sigh, my right hand covered my face in frustration.
"Okay." I start, "Half of us need to take night watches. Joseph, Nate, Andrew, you and I will be on the first shift. Charlie, Chris, Levi, Joshua and Scott on second shift. We watch anything that moves, everyone must be in camp at sunset, and we don't let anyone in or out of camp during the night. Got it? Now go tell the others." I tell him, before he leaves he opens his mouth to say something, but decides against it.
I walk around watching everything. I want to keep these boys safe. They're my family, and Hook is a problem. He tried to kill one of the boys and I cut his hand off, of course he's going to be pissed about it. Of course he's coming back to Neverland, but why now? Everything is breaking down.. First the girl, then the Umbra, and now Hook!
No, stop. Peter maybe you're over reacting. You need to relax.
....
No I'm not! This is so bad!
"Peter?" A sweet voice called from behind. It startled me a bit, I turned to where the voice came from. Her hazel eyes sparkled as the sun was setting along the horizon.
"Yes?" I answered. She stepped forward. I looked at her, she was still wearing my shirt. It looked like a dress on her.
"Are you okay?" She had concern written all over her face.
"I'm fine." I answered with irritation in my voice, turning away from her.
"Oh. Ok then." She paused. "I just... I just wanted to say thank you, for..."
My irritation rose, my stress levels high. "For what? Saving you?" I scoff. "I wouldn't care less if you were alive or dead."
She looked at me, taken aback by my comment. Her expression soon turned to anger. "Then why did you save me?"
"I did it for Aaron, he seems to be the only person who wants you here." I saw her hands clench into fists. I cross my arms across my chest.
"What's you're problem with me?" She snapped.
"Isn't it obvious princess?" I spoke sarcastically, then serious again. "I don't want you here."
"Well I guess too bad; you'll have to deal with me for a while." She spat at me before turning at her heels and walking away towards Aaron's tent. I exhaled not even knowing I was holding my breath. I couldn't help but feel a little guilty, I continue walking on through camp.Ali's POV
I huffed out air, I cannot believe it. I walk past the fireplace and head to the tent to get changed. But before I could get inside someone stops me.
"Woah Ali are you okay?" Scott's voice calls, I just ignore him. I hear him catching up to me. "Ali stop."
I go into the tent only followed by Scott.
"Ali, what's wrong?" His gentle voice spoke from behind me, he grabbed my wrist. I turn to him, it felt like steam went out of my nostrils.
"Peter is what's wrong. He's being an absolute asshole." His right eyebrow went up in question. He let my wrist go. "He told me he didn't care if I was dead or alive."
I crossed my arms and looked off to the side. "Then why did he save you?"
"That's what I asked him! He only said he did it for Aaron." I look at him my arms at my sides. I look down to the ground. "He's only treated me like a nuisance today. Yesterday he was somewhat nice to me."
"He hasn't always been like that you know." I looked up at him, his arms pressed across his chest.
"What do you mean?" I asked. He shrugged, and looked over to the wall, his lips pressed into a thin line.
"He used to be fun, playful, smiley.." He gave a small smile. He looked down. "Always wanted to have fun, practice sword fighting, teasing Hook, and even swimming with the mermaids."
I stayed quiet, listening intently to his story. I sit on the edge of the bed looking up at his face. "He hasn't been like that ever since..." He paused. "Ever since Wendy left."
Wendy? That girl from the stories?
"He fell in love with her." He looked pained, as if he had a broken heart...
"Did you like her too?" My question blurted out. My eyes widened, as did Scott's. A smile curled onto his face, his laugh sounded like he just heard the funniest joke.
"Are you kidding? No I didn't, she was like a best friend or little sister." His smile vanished into a frown. "When I heard Peter fancied her, I couldn't help but feel like a guardian, I needed to protect her. I was like the protective older brother."
"He eventually confessed, he wanted her to stay with him. She couldn't take the pressure of staying here forever I guess." He paused, it must be hard, I had to leave my best friends when I moved in with grandpa. "She left. It absolutely broke Peter and I into pieces, Peter more than me. He didn't take it well, he became sort of like a dictator to camp, he's eased a bit over the years, but we all miss the days when he was fun."
It was silent for a moment, until Scott spoke up once more. "Anyway, I have to go help with the Bon fire, I hope to see you there. Feel better."
That honestly explains a lot, why he's being an absolute asshole towards me. He doesn't want to get close, or he just doesn't trust me.
After he leaves I get dressed into my own clothes. But I have to be honest, Peter's shirt was really comfortable.
I brush my hair, it's mostly dry now, something in the water made my hair soft.
I soon leave the tent to see if there's something I could do to help.
