"Peter, where are we going?" She questioned, holding tightly to my hand. I grin at her as I lead the way. I glance at her petite form.
"You'll see. We'll be there in a minute." I assure her.
"This better not be one of your tricks, I know how much you enjoy a good laugh." She says quietly, I raise an eyebrow at her.
"I would never." Sarcastically speaking, she lets out her cute laugh.
I look where I was going and passed a familiar tree with our marking.
"We just have to walk through those trees and we'll be there." I tell her, I smile, I was excited and nervous.
The wind hit our faces as we passed through the leaves. She let out a breathtaking gasp looking down the cliff. Her blond curls reach down below her shoulders. Her blue dress, fit perfectly along her small body. She looked so frail, so beautiful. She turns to looks at me with excitement, her piercing blue eye stand out like the full moon on a dark night. She looked down the cliff and at the dark blue water.
"It's so beautiful." She exclaimed, she spun in a circle, face looking up at the sky.
"Wendy." I call, she stops to look at me, grinning happily. I nervously rub my neck. "I have something to tell you."
"You can tell me anything Peter." She stepped closer to me. I stuttered with my words, I couldn't say it correctly, I get frustrated.
"Damn it Wendy I love you. That's what I wanted to say." I exclaim, she stares at me in surprise and takes a step back.
"Peter, I'm sorry. You know I can't stay here. As wonderful this place is, my mother needs me. My brothers need me. I need to get home." She explained sadly, I felt numb, I didn't understand.
Suddenly a sharp pain climbs up my body from my toes to my head. I froze, not knowing what just happened or why. Wendy takes steps closer to me concerned.
"Finally." A voice I haven't heard in a long while. Horrified, I fall to the ground. Wendy comes towards me quickly. I stop her, "No! Wendy stay back!"
Hurt, she steps back. Stammering, "Peter?"
I had no control over my body, I saw the world in red. I stood up and walked to Wendy. I took out my sword, she was screaming, "Peter stop!!"
I can't, I'm sorry Wendy. I can't control myself.
"PETER!"
I jolt awake, sitting up quickly. Bile rose up my throat, like my sins crawling under my skin. I heave out the contents in my stomach until it's empty.
"Peter! Are you okay?" Allison cries, she kneels next to me. Her hands shook as she sets her hand on my back. I groan. I look at her sadly, "I'm fine."
"No you are not fine! You fell unconscious! You have a fever." She says, her voice was shaky. I grab onto her hand and look at her firmly.
"I'm fine. We need to get to camp, and quick." I strictly say, I groan from the pain.
"Stop talking." She hissed. "We're not going anywhere, you can't possibly even walk."
"Then how do you suppose we get back?" I snap. She think for a moment, I close my eyes.
"Why don't we make a fire? A smoke signal." She suggests.
"We could do that, unless you want pirates to see it." I scoff, she sternly looks at me.
"It's worth a try. Who knows, the boys might find us first and protect us." I think, she might be right. I set my head on the ground and look at the sky.
"Fine, let's give it a try. Do you know how to start a fire?"
"Of course I do, I've lived with you guys long enough to know." She crossed her arms.
She jokingly tells me to not go anywhere. Just a few feet away she looks into the river, I know what she's trying to find, flint.
She stands up and walks to me, setting the rock next to me. As she collected wood for the fire, I looked at her. From behind, she looked so much like Wendy, the color of her hair and fair skin. She looked so focused, her hair tied back. She had a petite figure, but I could see some muscle on those bones.
She finally comes back with some sticks and dried grass. Setting up the fire several feet from me.
"How are you feeling?" She calls to me.
"Like someone roughly threw me into a tree." I laugh, I stop immediately from the pain.
"And I wasn't there to watch. Shame." She joked along, laughing as she worked.
After minutes of silence, she sat up with a squeal of excitement. "I did it!"
"Good job, wait a minute for it to burn before adding more wood. When it's big enough add the leaves." I offer my words of wisdom.
"I got this, thank you very much." She says proudly, she sits next to the fire occasionally adding more wood until it was large enough that I felt it's heat. She broke off a branch from a tree, full leaves on the end of the branch. She adds more leaves, that were on the ground, to the fire. An eruption of smoke left the flames and flew into the air.
"Do you have any blades or anything to protect us?" She questions, I roll my eyes.
"Do you not remember how I got you untied last night?" It takes her a minute for it to register that she did remember.
I grab the knife for her and hand it to her safely. She puts it in her back pocket of her shorts, and sits down next to the fire feeding it green wood or leaves.
"Are they going to be able to see the smoke?" She looks up at the sky, squinting her eyes from the bright sun.
"I'm sure they will be able to." I look at her. "It may take a while for them to find us, depending on the distance."
There was silence between us for a long while. I decided to get to know Allison, I've never really asked her questions about herself.
"Tell me one of the happiest memories you've had before your life went to shit." I asked her looking up at the sky, she stayed quiet for a while, thinking I was guessing.
"When my parents told me my mom was pregnant with Aaron." She stared down at the fire with a smile.
"Really? When my parents told me I was going to have a sibling, I started crying." I chuckled, she let out a breathe, I assumed was a chuckle.
"My parents sat me down and told me the news, I was so excited. And when he was born, I wouldn't let him out of my sight. The both of us got along really well, even now we do. Sometimes I look at him, and see my dad. It makes me happy." She hugs her knees close, I have the sudden urge to hold her.
"You really love him don't you?" I ask, staring at her. Her eyes turn to me, she nods.
"I'd do anything to protect him. He's all I've got." Tears fall down her cheeks, she quickly wipes them away.
"What a sweet story." I turn to see, a dirty man, his toothy grin was yellow almost black. Pirates. I knew this was a bad idea.
