A Thousand Years

Family Vacation

Deeks and Kensi were driving up the California coast, listening to music as Liam sang along.

"Are we there yet?" Liam asked for the fifth time this hour.

"Honey we told you 20 minutes ago, San Fransisco is a ways away." Kensi says with a snort from the passenger seat. "It's going to take another four hours to get there."

Liam lets out a big sigh.

"You're doing good, son." Deeks exclaims as he glances through the rear view mirror to look at his son.

Liam looks out the window and points to a seagull flying over the ocean.

"Look mommy!" Liam yells as he laughs at the big bird.

"That's a seagull." Kensi replies.

"Will there be seagulls at the zoo?" Liam asks.

Deeks and Kensi let out a laugh.

"Oh I'm sure of it." They both say in unison.

Deeks and Kensi had decided to stay the week in San Fransisco and take the kids to the San Fransisco Zoo. They haven't had much family time together since Deeks had returned home.

After another hour of driving, Deeks pulls into a shopping centre so they could all grab a quick bit to eat and a take a trip to the bathroom before continuing the next three hours of their journey.

After eating and using the washroom, Kensi hops into the front seat while Deeks straps in the kids.

"There ya go!" Deeks says as he closes Liam's car door. He hops in the front seat and looks into the back.

"You kids ready to hit the road?" Deeks asks as he puts on his seatbelt.

Both kids sit in silence.

Kensi starts the car and proceeds to continue their drive.

"I'll take that as a yes."

They arrived at the hotel 3.5 hours later. After getting checked in, they make their way up to their room on the 5th floor.

Deeks swipes the keycard to the door and enters with the suitcases.

Liam walks in first, followed by Kensi and Iris and lastly Deeks.

"This is a very nice room!" Kensi exclaims as she places Iris in to the cot provided by the hotel. "Look, honey! You can go swimming with daddy later!" Kensi says looking down at the pool deck.

"Can we, can we?" Liam asks hopping up and down.

"Of course, except you can't jump up and down, there are people below us." Deeks says as he bends down to his sons height.

"You can go swimming after you have a nap," Kensi says as she begins to unpack one of the two suitcases. "You were up quite early today."

Liam lets out a big yawn.

"Babe can you get his toothbrush out of your shaving kit?" Kensi asks as she hands him the kit.

Deeks takes it from Kensi and brings it into the bathroom. Liam follows his dad like a baby duckling.

Kensi continues to hang up and put away clothes until both suitcases are empty.

Deeks and Liam exit the bathroom and Kensi hands Deeks Liam's pjs.

Liam quickly hops into bed and falls asleep almost right away.

"I think I need a nap." Deeks whispers as he wraps his arms around Kensi's waist.
