The Unexpected

3 months later

"Happy Birthday to you!!" The whole fourth floor of the hospital sang, as Callen stood uncomfortably by the cake I had made him.

"Thanks guys!" Callen said as he started to cut into the cake.

"Before G, Kensi made the cake." Nell said with a laugh.

"Hey!! I worked very hard on that cake. I've been practicing on my days off." I say proudly.

"Well thank you, Kensi. That's was very nice of you to do that for me." Callen said with a smile.

The hospital was pretty quiet. All that has to be done in my 12 hour shift was patient checkups to change the IV fluids, and write down how their doing on their chart.

"Kensi!" One of my regular patients greets as I walk in.

"How are you doing?" I ask my patient, Riley.

"I'm doing good!!" He replies. "My stomach still hurts, but I'll alright. How about you? How's the baby?" He asks.

As I write down his heart rate on his chart, I answer his question.

"The baby and I are doing great, Riley. Thank you for asking." I saw as I run his shoulder.

"The baby is due in 3 months now, everyday a part of me gets sore. I feel like an old lady sometimes." I say with a laugh.

Riley laughs, "have you thought of any names yet?"

I shake my head, and I can feel tears sting my eyes.

"My husbands in Afghanistan, and he doesn't even know he's going to be a dad," I start. "I haven't thought of any names yet, heck I don't even know what I'm having. I want it to be a surprise." I say as I change his fluids.

"I'm sorry to hear that about your husband, Kensi." Riley says. "My dads over there right now, he has been for two years. He comes back for Christmas and my birthday, but then I don't see him for the 355 days of the year."

I kiss him on the forehead and walk towards the door.

"I'll be back to check in on you an hour or so. And I'm sorry about your dad, sweetie. He sounds like an amazing dad." I say before I exit.

I waddle down the hallway and run into Nell.

She grabs me by the arm and pulls me into Callen's office.

"What are we doing?" I giggle as I see Callen sitting at his desk.

"Sit down, Kensi." Callen seriously said. I was starting to nervous. Callen is my friend, but he's also my boss.

"Did I do something wrong?" I nervously ask.

"Of course not!" Callen said with a small smile.

"I know you hate being the centre of attention," Callen paused and handed it over to Nell.

"I'm throwing you a baby shower, Kensi!!" Nell said as she jumped out of her seat.

"Nell I won't let--" Nell shushed me before I could say another word.

"Eric and I have planned it for weeks. It's going to be this Sunday either you like it or not." Nell said sitting back down.

"This Sunday!? That's three days from now!" I blurt out.

"Yah, and picking you up at 10 o clock sharp." Callen said with a huge smile.

Sunday Morning 9:30am

I was ready to go half an hour before Callen was supposed to show up. I had showered, changed and pampered up in less than two hours. That's a new record.

I decided to put on grey sweater and stretchy, tight fitting yoga pants. I put my hair in a French fishtail braid, and I decided to do smokey eyeshadow.

I waited for 30 minutes, when I heard Callen come up to the front step. Before he could knock, I opened up the front door.

"You ready to go?" Callen asked as I walked outside.

"I sure am!" I say as I lock my front door.

"I just love the smell of the ocean. I wish I had a beach front property like you, Kens." Callen said as he unlocks the car.

The back door of our house leads to the beach, where Deeks and I could go surfing together every morning.

Nell and Eric's house was 30 minutes from ours, and when we got there, I couldn't be more happier than to get out of the car.

Callen helped me up the inclined driveway and up the porch steps. Nell and Eric lived right in the centre of Los Angeles.

Nell opens the door right before we're even on the first step.

"Kensi!!" Nell says as she runs down the stairs to pull me up faster.

"Slow down, Nell!! I can't walk as fast as I used to!" I say with a laugh.

She blushes and immediately lets go of my arm.

"I'm sorry, Kensi. I'm just excited to get the party started!! Everyone's here already!"

I walk through the front door and see a dozen pairs of eyes look my way.

"hey guys!" I say as Nell closes the door behind me.

I waddle over to the couch and sit down. Everyone joins me, and Nell looks at me more excited than usual.

"Ok, Kensi," Nell said as she handed me a piece of paper and a pen.

"I've prepared us some "dirty diapers'!" Nell said as she each handed us a notepad.

"I've melted a chocolate bar onto a diaper, and you must smell the diaper to guess what chocolate bar it is!" Nell said.

"It was Eric's idea." She blurted before anyone could question the game.

I burst out laughing. This may have been the first time I've laughed since Deeks left.

"This sound like a fun game! I warn you though, I'm very competitive!" I say as I wait for the diapers.

"What can I say? I know my chocolate bars!" I say as the game finishes up.

"Ok. Now it's time for presents!!" Nell said as she hops out of her seat.

She grabs 10-15 gifts out from the kitchen and places them in front of me.

"Oh you guys!" I say as I'm looking around the room, where all my nursing friends are sitting. "You guys didn't have to give me anything!"

"Yes we did, Kens." Callen said as he sat down next to me.

"Now, we're all convinced you're having a girl, but since it's going to be a surprise, I made sure to tell everybody to buy unisex clothing or toys." Nell commented.

I end up opening 15 presents. There was an assortment of toys, diapers, bibs, shoes, little hats and clothing.

Nell hands me on last gift. It's an envelope with me name written in familiar handwriting.
