"Push, push!! That's right you're doing amazing!" I hear the doctor say.
"I can see the head!! Give me one more push and you'll be able to hold your baby boy!!" The doctor continues.
"We're going to need more blankets, Blye." A nurse orders.
I quickly run to the supply closet and grab two baby blankets.
I enter the room to hear the beautiful sound of a baby's scream.
I hand the doctor the blankets, and grab a clipboard to write down the baby's information.
"He's 6lbs 7oz. He's 49 inches long, and he's got a good amount of hair!!" The docker jokes. I wrote down the information and hand the doctor the clipboard.
I grab a hat from the counter and place it gently on the boys head. I then carefully wrap the baby and cradle him in my arms. I carefully walk toward the woman and hand her the baby.
"Congratulations you two." I smile.
"Blye!! I got a code blue!!" Callen says through the patients door.
I run after Callen to the code blue.
"I run in to see Miss Blake flat lining.
"What happened?" I yell at Callen.
"A nurse came in at lunch and saw her having a seizure! After she called for help, she starting flat lining and then I called you."
"Clear!" The sound of electricity trying to restart her heart filled the room.
"Charge to 240." I say as I grab the paddles from the other nurse.
"Clear!" I place the paddles on Miss Blake's chest, and her chest rises up and down.
Her heart remains quiet.
"Charge to 300." I order.
"Clear!!"
Again no luck.
"Charge to 300 again!" I repeat.
"Clear!" I yell.
The beautiful sound of a beating heart filled the room. I had just saved Miss Blake's life.
~~~~~~~~~
"Nice work today, Blye!" A doctor says as she pats me on the back.
"How's Miss Blake doing?" I ask Callen while I finish filling out a patients chart.
"She's good, all thanks to you!" Callen says as he takes the chart from my hands.
"How's the patient in #361?" I ask.
"Ah, she's dialled to a 5, I'm gonna need you to give her an epidural." Callen orders.
I nod my head and head over to room 361.
I walk in to see a woman clutching her husbands hand.
I grab her chart from the door and walk in.
"Hello, my name is Kensi, and I've come to offer you an epidural." I say with a smile.
The woman laughs and lets go of her husband hand.
"Please!! If you could give it to me now, that would be great!!" The woman quickly looks to her husband.
"Could you please go get me some ice chips, babe? Thanks." She demands. The husband walks out of the room and turns the corner for the ice machine.
I grab my pager and page an anesthesiologist.
I walked over to the patient and started to change her IV fluids.
"Have you ever wished your husband would stop believing he knew everything?" The woman joked.
"I haven't actually," I lightly say. "My husbands deployed in Afghanistan." I say as I unhook her current IV bag.
"Oh sweetie, I'm sorry I shouldn't have said anything!" The woman felt utterly terrible.
"Don't sweat it!" I say with a smile. "I just hope we comes home soon. I think about him all the time." I hook up her bag, and write down her vitals on her chart.
"Do you ever think about having kids?" The woman shyly asks as her husband came back with her ice chips.
I could feel myself blush.
"I'm three months today, actually. I just pray everyday he'll be home before the birth!" I say as the anesthesiologist walks in.
"Congrats, honey. It's all worth it in the end."
The woman delivers her baby three hours later, a baby girl. As I help her through it, I can't think about wonder. Will we have a baby Deeks or baby Kensi running around the house?~~~~~~~~~
Nell, Callen and I sit in the hospital cafeteria eating our dinner at 2:00am in the morning.
"It feels so good to sit down!" I say as I take a huge bite out my surprisingly good homemade lasagna from cooking class.
"Tell me about! I was in surgery for five hours today, I was about ready to drop the scalpel and leave!" Callen said with laugh.
"What about you Nell?" I ask before taking another big bite.
She shrugged her shoulders and took a bite of her sandwich.
"I just been correcting people's charts for the past six hours. It gets tiring after a while."
Callen drops his plastic fork and turns to me.
"When are you planning on going on Mat leave?" He asks.
I shrug my shoulder and bite my lip.
"I was planning to work for as long as I could! I love what I do, and I'm bored at home all day!!"
"True, have you gone to see an OBGYN yet?" He asked.
I look over at Nell in shock.
"I never actually thought about going! I always thought Deeks was going to come with me.."
"I'll go with you, Kensi! We can go on our day off on Thursday!" Nell chirped.
"I'd love that." I say with a smile.
"This will be cold Mrs Deeks." The doctor warns as she places a cool gel on my abdomen."Well it's too early to hear a heartbeat, but if you'd like to know what gender, I can tell you right now!" The doctor says with a joyful grin.
"I'd love to know please!" I smile.
"It looks like your having a....."
