My heart freezes in my chest as I walk towards the door. Apparently I was right, my parents aren't home. Standing on our doorstep is a woman I've never seen before. She is holding a dish with cookies and has a big smile on her face. She is around my mom's age; she is tall and has blonde hair and beautiful, sparkling green eyes. I feel more relaxed now that I saw her kind face and the honest smile but i stay ware anyway.

-Hello, how can I help you?

-Hello, I'm Diane McLaughlin, I'm sorry for the unexpected visit of mine but I live in the house across the road and I thought that is nice to welcome you since you are new in town and the neighborhood and don't know anyone around here. Also I baked you cookies.

-That's very kind of you, we appreciate it. You may come in, although we are not settled in yet so the house is messy and my parents are gone.

-Don't worry about that. I understand, will your parents be late?

-No I don't think so.

She looks pretty kind and back in Greece it's really normal to welcome new neighbors, in fact I was sent by my mother to welcome a family to our neighborhood a few years ago, but this is U.S.A and I don't really know how the things are rolling here, what if people don't let people in their homes that easily? I wish I didn't do a stupid mistake from the very first day.

I lead the way to the kitchen where I offer her a sit in while I grab another one and apologize about not having anything but her cookies. I feel bad about it; even that it's not my fault I can feel my cheeks burning.

-It's okay, you just moved in anyway. The previous owner was a cousin of mine and told me that you are from Greece so I felt responsible to help you out. I know it's hard to move out and left behind people you love but I am sure you will get used to it, this is a nice town and I can assure you the people are kind and caring.

-That's very kind of you, thank you. I'm a bit under the weather with the whole thing will recover until the first day of the school year.

Phew. Thanks god she is not a talker. She just gave me a few instructions of how to go to some places we might needed in short amount of time, warned me about the river and the wood. My parents were late apparently so I think she felt the need to leave. While I was driving her through the messy place back to the door i remembered to ask something important.

-Sorry Ms McLaughlin, can you tell me if there is a place I can play basketball or football or volley nearby, or exercise in general?

-Hm, only a basketball field on the corner. My sons Rhett and Cole are there all day, do you want me to tell them you will drop by?

-No, I think I want to keep a low profile for a few more days would like to meet them though.

-Okay, as you wish.

Well I just made a start, didn't I? I met a new person and I learnt where a place to motivate a bit is. That's cool and it wasn't that hard. Also I learn the names of two guys around my age I guess. What were their names again? Rhett and Cole.... what kind of name is Rhett? I have never heard it before.... Anyway, she was nice and I like her.

I'm so tired that I go to lay on the mattress again. By the time I enter my bedroom the bell rings. My parents are home this time with their hands full of groceries. I help them put everything into place in kitchen, then my mom kick us out of it to cook peacefully, so me and my dad go and put the sofas and the table on the living room.

While we were putting the second a big red carpet next to the fireplace my mom brought in the food. We were all exhausted so we ate without talking and went upstairs to take a nap.

The mattress is not exactly convenient but I don't care, my legs and arms are hurting and I feel like I'm going to faint. The room is moving as I burry my head in the soft pillow. I sleep almost immediately without dreaming.

I feel something touching my back and open my eyes to see my dad.

-Morning, sleepy beauty says as he sweeps me of my feet. I need help with the rest of the living room can you help me?

-If you let me back down i might think about it. Also if you tell me how many years i have been sleeping.

-Just 2 hours is afternoon.

He carries me down like a little kid and throws me in the sofa.

-Now stand up and help me built the bookcase.

I obey immediately. My dad seems very energetic. He is joking and plays with me like I'm a little girl. The time is passing and when the moon is up on the sky the living room is ready. Furniture, little decorations, photographs, everything is into place. Since that room won't be painted it won't change that much. So I'm standing there with my dad looking our new living room we decorate ourselves. It's pretty but is missing something. Is missing memories, is missing Maria and Dane laying on the sofas lazily talking about their crushes, is missing Nicholas kissing me in the middle of the room when my parents weren't there...the whole house miss that.

Tears water my eyes and i run in my room again, unable to stop them. I'm hugging my pillow and cry the memories out. I'm sorry Nicholas, it's been two days and I have already failed you. With my tear floating eyes I search my bag for Maria's perfume, which she gave me since it has always been a comfort to me. By the time I reached it I feel the weird feeling again. Somebody is staring at me and I am in front of the window only with a t-shirt on. I cover myself with it as much as possible and look at the direction of the stare. For a few moments I saw a tall figurate in McLaughlin's house looking my way from a window, but it was lost in a blink of an eye, plus it is a very dark night. Was anyone really there, or am I just freaking out because of the absence of curtains?
