When I walked into the class Rhett was already there along with Link, since they were talking with some other guys I passed through them feeling their eyes on me. I took a seat next to the window and I was about to start a conversation with the girl that was sitting in front of me when Rhett came and sat on the desk behind me. He didn't say a word though. He had his long legs under my chair almost touching mine but he didn't say anything. Should I make the first move?

The teacher entered and everyone suddenly stopped talking. After clarifying a few things and basically welcoming us she started calling our names, I grabbed on my desk tight already starting to sweat.

-Kolins Mareteni?

-Maritina

Now most of the class was staring at me. The teacher was about to give it another try but Rhett couldn't keep his mouth shut.

-Just call her Martin to get on with it; we don't have a Greek language lesson yet.

He chuckled and everybody else did too. The teacher seemed to like it as well.

-Martin it is.

Fuck Rhett that really wasn't the right time to be funny. When the class was over I headed to my locker and left everything inside it. Daniel was waiting for me on the end of the aisle. His blonde hair was messy and his dark blue eyes were full of excitement, I could almost see his heart jumping out of his black t-shirt who was very large for his skinny body. I moved towards him.

-Hey there Shorty.

-Stop calling me that, I'm not that short.

-You are the shortest of us so you are the Shorty.

I punch him in the arm.

-Jerk.

-Why is that look on your face, did something happen?

-No, despite the fact that I will probably being called Martin for my next High school years because of Rhett

-What?

-The teacher had trouble pronouncing my name and Rhett felt the need to give her a hand and suggested to be called Martin.

He laughed.

-You have to admit that's a good one. Don't worry nobody will remember it until tomorrow.

I had lunch at Cole's table meeting two guys from the rugby team. Jacob and Andrew. They were cool, but I was trying to figure out how to talk to Rhett the whole time. Cole noticed and kicked me under the table but didn't say anything else. He understand. When school was done i took my stuff from my locker and went outside quickly to find Rhett. He was with a bunch of other guys including Link under a tree looking at the opposite direction talking and laughing loudly. I approached him without insecurities and messy thoughts. I knew what i had to do.

-Rhett, can i talk to you for a minute?

All five of them turned to face me. The three boys I didn't know yet, completely checking me out. I was rather annoyed by the absence of discretion, but that's how boys are.

-Sure.

We moved a little bit further.

-I'm so sorry Rhett, Nicholas wasn't the person I used to know, I'm sorry you had to get through that. Nicholas kiss was unintentional from my side, I didn't want to kiss him and I was running towards you to apologize for the previous day's events. And also I never tried to replace you with Cole, you just weren't home and we ended up hanging around.

I look into his eyes with hope. I want to be forgiven.

-We are okay. I was a dork to you when it was clearly not your fault; I just was too blind to see it. I'm sorry for my behavior, I just see red sometimes.

-We are good then.

-Yeah, I need to go now, talk to you later.

He returned to his group of friends and left me standing speechless on the middle of the path. But honestly what I was expecting? To jump around like a puppy who was back with his owner? He has free will and he is attractive he doesn't need me. And i don't need him.

I drove all the way back as fast as i could. I was rather cold but I didn't care. I parked in the garage and left my helmet on the shelf. When I got into my room, I gave a quick look to all my books to find out that they were things I already knew but they had a difference. They were easier and more understandable given. Maybe I will like American education system eventually. Around 7 pm I decided to pay a visit at the McLaughlin's house. Rhett answered the door.

-Hey there.

-Hi is Cole here?

-No he isn't, do you want to come in and wait him?

-Why not?

I entered bit nervous, there was awkwardness floating in the atmosphere. Rhett lead me to his room and closed the door.

-What were you up to all this time?

-Not much, basically Cole and the guys were showing me around.

-I see. Did you have fun?

-Plenty of it. What were you and Link doing?

-Not much, we were in the house most of the time watching movies. Do you want to watch one now?

-Sure what have you got?

-What about Star Wars?

-Return of the Jedi?

-Good choice.

When he had everything set up he tapped a spot on the carpet next to him inviting me to join in. And I did. The film was good, obviously, and as the time was passing i felt more comfortable around him again. We had our nerdy conversations and arguments, I was glad Nicholas didn't manage to take that away from me in the end. Cole came back around eight.

-Hello you guys. Wow that was unexpected.

-I know we figured things out.

-Exactly. I couldn't let you have her all for yourself could i?

Rhett said as he petted my head. He is such an idiot sometimes.

-So can I join you?

-Actually, I think I will leave, it's late and I'm pretty hungry.

-I f you make us pancakes I will promise you I will love you forever and I will kick every ass you want me to in order you to be happy

-What about Friday night? Along with a movie marathon?

-Okay it's settled then.

-Bring the guys and you Rhett bring Link, we will have a blast.

-Okay see you tomorrow Shorty.

-See you tomorrow Martin.

-Seriously Rhett?

He smiled and turned to the TV.

Until Friday I managed to get used to how High school worked. I got into the art club and I made my way into the band playing the bassoon and I got many classes same with Rhett and Link unintentionally. I made friends with most of the kids in my class although Jess is my one and only. She is shy and uncomfortable around boys, but she is intelligent and open-minded so we are making a good duo. Also cheerleader's captain Jamie asked to join their team and I accepted the offer, it is a nice way to meet girls I could hang out with in order not to be surrounded by boys all the time.

Everything was going absolutely amazing, I had a good base to work on my social life and I was completely in love with High school. The lessons, the students, the teachers, everything was going well finally and my fears were vanished completely. According to Cole and Martin I was already pretty popular because of my looks and the fact that I was Greek, pretty exotic in the male population of High school eyes. There wasn't a better way to end this week but with the gathering in my house at night.

But that changed when I saw Rhett kissing Jamie in the middle of the corridor.
