Relationships are about thinking about your significant other, sacrificing a lot, and putting their happiness before yours. For some people, relationships can be easy, but not in Y/N and Theo's case. Those two have been dealt with more obstacles than any high school couple ever should. Y/N's friends had warned her to stay away from Theo, but she couldn't let go of him that easily. The Dread Doctors had told Theo to get rid of her as she was a distraction, but he repeatedly told them she wasn't and he was sticking to the plan. She had no idea he was with the bad guys. He made sure she wouldn't find out and get hurt in the process, but now it was too late.
Mason had just explained to Y/N what happened in the library with Scott minutes after Melissa took him home. It wasn't Liam that killed Scott; it was Theo. She wanted to believe it was a lie, but she knew deep down her gut feeling was telling her Mason was telling the truth. She knew Theo had been craving power, wanting a pack of his own, and lied about what happened between Stiles and Donavon. It all made sense to her now. Theo was working with the bad guys.
Y/N had just gotten home after checking up on Scott. She said her goodbyes when Melissa said he needed his rest, in which Y/N fully understood, and asked Melissa to call her tomorrow to see how he's doing.
She flipped the switch to her bedroom, only to find Theo sitting on the edge of her bed. She had always left her bedroom window unlocked for him to come and go every night, but given everything that happened tonight, Theo was the last person she wanted to see.
"You have a lot of nerve showing up here," her nose flared as she let out a deep breath and folded her arms tight to her chest.
Theo could sense her anger boiling in her veins. He knew somehow she had figured out what happened tonight.
"Let me explain," Theo immediately stood up from her bed, ready to sort everything out.
"Are you fucking kidding me?!" She yelled, so thankful her parents weren't home to hear what was about to happen. "You killed Scott! There is no explaining!"
"You don't understand!" His voice was starting to match hers. "Don't I get a say in this?!"
"The blood stains, Scott's blood, on your shirt makes it perfectly easy to understand! So, no! You do not get a say on killing one of my best friends, Theo!"
She walked over to her bedroom window and opened it, signaling Theo to leave. He took a step towards her, but stopped in place when she took a step back, distancing herself further from him, instantly washing away all the anger boiling in his veins. He looked straight into her eyes, which were nearly on the verge of releasing tears. He hated this. He loved her more than anything. She was the first thing that made sense to him in a long time, and suddenly, it felt like he was about to lose her.
"I'm not going to hurt you," his voice was traced with sadness. "I would never do that to you." He whispered.
"Except, you did," she bit her lip, trying to fight back the tears begging to escape. "You did tonight, Theo. And I don't know if," she stopped herself and shook her head. "I know I can never forgive you for this."
Theo's heart dropped to his stomach. He couldn't lose her. He didn't want to lose her. She was his whole world, and without her, he wouldn't know how his life would make any sense.
"Don't say that," he hesitated before taking another step. His heart was telling him to run up to her and wrap his arms around her, but his head was telling him to give her the space she needed.
"Theo..." She barely whispered. "Please, get out."
"No," he said sternly. "Not until you tell me you're just kicking me out so you can sleep on it."
"What is there to think about, Theo?!" She snapped back. "In the morning, it'll still feel the same! I'll still be hurt in the morning, the next morning after that, and all the mornings to follow. You killed Scott," she emphasized. "KILLED! There's no need to think about this or us. We're done, Theo."
"Y/N...." Theo finally closed the gap between the two and immediately cupped her cheeks, bringing her to look into his broken blue eyes. Her tears had finally made their escape as she saw the pain his eyes. He was hurting too, but not for the same reasons. He was hurting at the thought of losing her. He wasn't hurting from the guilt he should be feeling for killing her best friend.
Theo brushed her tears away with the pad of his thumbs. "I love you. That's all that matters, right?"
She sniffled as she shook her head. She took in a breath before speaking. "Our love is toxic. We're like a monster with two heads. I'm pulling in one direction and you're going in the other. I thought we were going in the same direction, but tonight just proves we never were."
"Y/N..." Theo choked back a sob as he blinked his eyes profusely, trying to fight back his tears. "Don't say that," he whispered.
"It's true," she took in a shaky breath. "It's been like that since the beginning, except I didn't know it at the time, but now I do. You've always been with the bad guys, and I'll always be with the good guys. We were never on the same side."
"Yes, we were!" Theo argued as warm tears fell down his cheeks. "You love me. I love you. That's the one side that matters, our side." He emphasized.
"I'm sorry, Theo, but I can't do this anymore," she looked away from him.
Theo's heart shattered into pieces. He knew their relationship was over and it was his fault. He should have known better and if he could go back into time, he would change it all. He would quit working with The Dread Doctors the moment he met her and sided with her and her friends. He wouldn't have let the feeling of being so powerful and having his own pack be his top priorities. He would have made Y/N his one and only priority. He would have put her before himself, but now, it was too late.
He pulled her in for a hug as he wrapped his arms tightly around her waist and buried his head at the crook of her neck as more warm tears escaped. She buried her face in his chest as she clung on to his shirt, almost begging him to stay, but she knew better.
After what seemed like hours, he pulled away and pressed his lips against hers without hesitating. It was slow and gentle, perfect for a goodbye kiss.
Y/N pulled back before she could fall under his spell again and forgive him for everything he did tonight. She pulled herself out of Theo's hold and hugged herself. Theo walked to the bedroom window and put one leg out the window. Before leaving completely, he looked back at Y/N. "I'm sorry," he whispered.
She nodded. "I am too."
With that, Theo climbed out of Y/N's bedroom for one last time. When he reached the ground, he looked up at her bedroom and he was greeted with a sight he'd never seen before. Y/N locked her bedroom window and closed the curtains in front of her, followed with her bedroom lights turning off. He felt the pain in his heart deepen with each step he took away from her house and only wished he could take back what he did tonight.
