It was a typical Saturday night at Hillbilly's in Nashville. Almost everyone in town was at the bar with a cold beer in their hand or line dancing on the dance floor as the live band played a little out of tune. Theo's eyes scanned the crowded bar and noticed a guy trying too hard to get a girl's attention, a couple of sleazy guys who had no chance of going home with any of the girls tonight, and a lot of friends and couples having a good time. He turned around and saw Y/N standing by the window, talking on the phone with one finger in her ear, trying to drown out the music. A smile tugged his lips as the neon light in the windowpane glowed and showed off all of his favorite features of hers. He knew he was lucky. There wasn't a guy in this bar that had a girl like her.
Theo moved to Nashville shortly after graduation. He needed to escape the town where everyone knew the mistakes he made. Although it took a while for his friends to forgive him and gain his trust back, he needed to start somewhere completely new and fresh. Originally, he wasn't planning on staying in Nashville. It was actually just a stop he made while traveling around the country to see what place felt right for him. The night he met Y/N was the night he knew he was meant to stay in Nashville.
"Hi, I'm Theo. Theo Raeken," he smiled and extended his hand out as he finally decided to approach the prettiest girl at the bar. Her eyes widened for a quick second as she took a step back, realizing exactly who he was. Theo didn't let her small action go unnoticed as his smile faltered a little. "I'm sorry. Have we've met before?"
Y/N quickly shook it off and gathered herself. She took a step closer to Theo and smirked at him knowing she was about to stun him. She took his hand in hers and shook it. "No, we haven't, but I'm Y/N Argent."
This time Theo's eyes widened in complete shock and slight horror. "Argent? As in-"
"Chris' daughter, Allison's sister, and friends with Scott, Stiles, and Lydia," she smiled.
"Do you still-"
"Keep in touch?" She finished his sentence before nodding her head and taking a sip from her beer. "Every day. I'm surprised to see the Theo Raeken in Nashville. You're a long way from home, aren't you?"
"Yeah, so are you," He mumbled. Although Theo and Scott were on good terms now, Theo realized he didn't have a chance with a girl who clearly knew about his past and what he's done. He decided to leave her alone. "Well, I'm sorry I bothered you. Have a great night."
He turned on his heel to walk away, but she quickly stopped him as she wrapped her hand around his arm. "Where are you going?"
"Away," he answered slightly confused as his eyebrows furrowed together. He didn't understand why she would suddenly want to talk to the guy who killed one of her friends and tried to tear the rest of them apart.
"Why?" She asked.
"Because I'm pretty sure you know all about me."
"Well not everything," she took the last sip of her beer. "Just what you've done."
"Exactly. So, I should probably save both of us some time and just go," he slightly shifted to get out of her hold.
She held on to him tighter, refusing to let him leave her grip. "Who am I to judge you? I'm not saying what you did was okay, because it's not, but I didn't know you then, and I don't know you now. I only know of you, but something tells me you're not the same Theo anymore." She signaled the bartender and picked up two fingers and her empty beer bottle. "So, why don't you stay and join me? Give me a chance to get to know you, the new you."
Theo gave her a genuine smile as he sat in the bar stool next to her. "I'd like that."
That night the two talked about everything and anything, and by the end of the night when Theo walked her to her cab, he realized he had found a one-of-a-kind girl. While living in Nashville, he's heard songs on the radio about the good old country girls everyone is familiar with. The country girls with long tan legs, cutoff jeans, plaid shirts, and cowboy boots. And although Y/N had already been living in Nashville for three years and considered herself a southern country gal, she wasn't like that at all.
She had that beautiful-born-with-it kind of thing going on, which came so natural to her. Y/N was beautiful inside and out. She had a big heart. She was sweet and thoughtful. But she was also strong and a fighter, who wasn't afraid to say what was on her mind. She's had her struggles and bad days just like everyone else. She was oftentimes stubborn and impatient. But Theo didn't care. He loved everything about her, the good and the bad. He couldn't find one thing wrong about her. She was far from perfect, but in his eyes she was perfect, and he often asked himself what he did to get a girl like her.
Y/N finally hung up the phone and walked towards Theo. Her smile grew with every step. She wrapped her arms loosely around his waist and gazed into his eyes.
"What did Haley say?" He asked.
"She's on her way. She had a fight with Shawn, but they're good now. They'll be here in a few minutes."
Theo pushed back her hair and tucked it behind her ears, his eyes never once leaving hers. When it came to her, Theo counted his blessings. He never in his wildest dreams expected Y/N to love him back. He was a monster and never forgave himself for the things he'd done, but when he eventually explained his story, Y/N didn't judge him. In fact, the first thing she told him was something Lydia had once said, "not all monsters do monstrous things." Granted, she knew what he did was wrong, but she understood why he left Beacon Hills. He wanted to start a new life, leave the one he had behind, and fix himself. She had done the same thing after Allison passed away. It's what brought her to Nashville in the first place.
Gazing back into his eyes, Y/N couldn't help but wonder what Theo was feeling. She wasn't a supernatural creature, but it's moments like this when he's looking at her like she hung the moon, she wished she could hear if his heartbeat was beating as crazy and as fast as hers.
"Why do you keep looking at me like that?" She smiled before biting her bottom lip nervously.
He smiled widely as he wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close to his chest. He leaned in and whispered in her ear, "A girl like you don't come along but once in a lifetime."
She pulled back with a bigger smile than before as she wrapped her arms around his neck. "Well, then cowboy, you better hang on tight." Theo chuckled before she leaned in and kissed him, deep and passionately.
Theo's arms tightened around her figure as one of her hands ran through his soft hair. Truthfully, they didn't care if they were in a public place as their lips moved in perfect sync. Whenever their lips collided, the world around them disappeared and they were the only ones left. It was a feeling they hadn't felt until they found each other nearly two years ago when Theo kissed her goodnight after their third date just outside her apartment door.
"Come on. Dance with me," she pulled back, grabbed his hands and led him towards the dance floor as the live band played Easton Corbin's song "A Girl Like You". As Theo danced and twirled Y/N around the dance floor, he had never heard a song so accurate. Theo held her close as they dance and appreciated how lucky he was to have a girl like Y/N because he knew a girl like her don't come along but once in a lifetime.
