Derek grunted as he tugged on the steel handle for the millionth time. Y/N watched him wear down more after each pull. Granted, she knew why he kept doing it. They were trapped in a room and that locked door was their only way out. The room was almost like a bomb shelter. The walls were thick and too hard for them to break through layers of concrete and bricks with Derek's werewolf strength.
At this point, they've lost count of how long they've been there. It hasn't been days, but it's certainly been several hours. Y/N had already accepted their fate they would be trapped here until Derek's pack found them or worse, their kidnappers killed them.
Neither Derek nor Y/N knew or understood why they were kidnapped. They were walking to his loft and then, Derek was hit with a tranquilizer dart he didn't see coming. Within seconds, he collapsed to the ground, and before Y/N could try and help him, someone had placed a black bag over her head. Within an hour, they were brought into their current situation.
Derek yelled as he tugged on the door handle again. Y/N sighed as she rolled her head back against the wall. "I don't know why you're still trying. I mean if it didn't work the first time, what makes you think it'll work a million times later?" She asked.
Derek's head snapped in her direction, his electric blue eyes glowing. Y/N wasn't scared of him, nor should she be. Derek has never shown any desire to hurt her when he was angry or in werewolf form. Even though she didn't know it, Derek would never want to hurt her because he's in love with her.
He glared at her, almost as if he was telling her 'I don't see you trying to help us get out of here.'
Y/N totally picked up on that signal. "Oh, I'm sorry, what did you want me to use? My supernatural powers or magic?" Her voice dripped with sarcasm, which made him glare at her even more. "What?" She asked. "You know I'm useless."
His eyes shifted back to his normal color and softened. Y/N noticed a hint of sadness. She didn't need to be a werewolf to know Derek was feeling sorry for her.
"You're not useless, Y/N," Derek sighed as he walked across the small room and sat on the floor next to her. "I don't want you to ever think that."
"It's hard not to, Derek. I mean you're an alpha. My friends, your betas, all have these awesome supernatural abilities, and I don't. I'm just human. There's nothing special about me."
Derek reached for her hand and held it tight. Y/N's heart skipped a beat, which didn't go unnoticed by Derek. Her heart rate increased when Derek's thumb started rubbing small circles on her hand. He couldn't help but look down at their hands and smile. He had never done that before and he always wondered if she ever felt the same way. Had he known this small action and the chemosignals radiating off her from this gesture would have given him the answer he needed, he would have done this a long time ago.
He looked up from their hands and back at her. His eyes instantly locked with hers. "You are special, Y/N. I think that's why I like you, because you're human. You enjoy the simple things in life. You love wholeheartedly. You show compassion towards everyone. You are genuinely a good person and it's very rare to find someone like you. That's what makes you special."
Y/N swallowed hard. She had dreams about Derek confessing he loved her as much as she does. She's wondered if this moment would ever happen. Now that it did, she was at a loss for words. She didn't know if she should say something or grab him by the collar and kiss him hard.
Before she could make her decision, the sound of a lock being broken caused the pair to look at the door. The heavy door was pushed wide open. Derek had never been so happy to see his betas.
"We gotta hurry! They found us," Isaac said.
"Who?" Derek asked as he grabbed Y/N and helped her get up.
