A Letter of an Alley Cat to a Human
Dear Hairless Monstrosities,
Do not be fooled by my innate cuteness or adorable face. Do not be fooled by my wide eyes and soft fur. Do not be fooled, foul human, into believing I like you. It is not me that is responsible for this impression. I have done all I can to promote your death or, if I am feeling nice, at least banish you from my kingdom. Do you not hear my commands to be away in my threatening meows? Do you not sense me wishing your death when I stare at you? There is no creature more foolish than a human, and I have dealt with dogs.
I do not want to be trapped within those walls with you as you continually insist on doing to my unfortunate brethren. I refuse to be so. Do you know what you ask of me, silly human?
To leave the streets would be to leave my domain. My kingdom. I am part of a community of cats, and cannot abandon them in their war against dogs. To leave would be to leave years of scents; hundreds and thousands of trails of urine, all to go into a place unmarked and foreign. The work involved in making it smell presentable is extraordinarily great, and I need to nap two-thirds of my day.
You may be trying to make me a home, and that is all good and well, but I am a king with no ties. Besides, I like to relieve myself with freedom. Going in a tub of granulated orbs seems idiotic.
Sincerely,
That Cat You Tried to Catch but Couldn't
