Lexas POV
-
-
Approximately four days later - after the weekend had past, the bell rang loudly and Lexas class was practically filled with troublemaker students. She counted with her index finger to see how many students were present and her eyes flickered to Clarke's empty metal chair. Curiously, she glanced over towards Octavia - who she knew to be Clarke's best friend, and Octavia met her gaze. From across the classroom, Lexa swore she heard Octavia sigh in defeat and give her an apologetic look. Lexa was certainly confused and slightly disappointed by the absense of Clarke. The two hadn't spoken since that moment in the lunch room. Sure - they'd shoot each other a forced and rather awkward smile, but that was about it. Neither made the first move to actually use their words and it was killing the brunette.
Clearing her throat, the tall teacher leaned on the edge of her desk, nearly seated on it. "Alright everyone, let us begin." She said loudly, speaking ober all the voices that filled her ears.
They all continued to chat amongst themselves and Lexa walked towards the wooden door to shut it so they would receive more privacy. That's when she saw Clarke who rushed into the class with a paper in her hand. She pushed it against Lexas chest and Lexa took the paper from the blonde with curiosity. "Whats this?" Lexa asked in a soft and rather gentle tone.
She studied the paper as if it were a million dollar check that had just been handed to her for no good reason.
The brunettes heart shattered into a thousand pieces all over the ground. She was too numb to even bend down and pick them up. She felt broken, speechless, and confused. She had no idea why Clarke was going through with this foolish plan of hers. She had no idea what she had done to deserve this. Of course this was nonsense coming from Lexa but why had Clarke decided this? Why had Clarke decided to hurt Lexa...
Had Lexa come on too strong? Was Clarke scared? Did Clarke blame her for it all?
She stared at Clarke with a emotionless expression. Her lips parted to speak, but no words found their way to Lexas pink lips. They seemed to have caught in Lexas throat and were choking her. Physically, Choking her. Of course that couldn't ever happen, but that was how heart broken Lexa felt by Clarke's actions.
Turning towards the class, she waved her hand to get their attention. "Discuss your guys' homework assignment please." She instructed. Grabbing Clarke by the wrist, she led the blonde out of the class to have a private conversation in the abandoned halls. The brunette held the paper up in her left hand as Clarke found her shoes more interesting than Lexas face.
Lexa didn't back down. She kept her ruthless glare planted on her face, that softened when she met Clarke's blue ocean like eyes. She cleared her throat and looked away to regain her senses of hatred and some sort of pain. Her heart ached and her stomach twisted and turned.
"Your Transferring?"
She spoke such words with the hurt obvious in her voice, and the pain lying beneath her green forest eyes.
"I..." Clarke's voice failed her and trailed down until Lexa didn't hear her anymore.
"You what Clarke. Did you not enjoy my lessons? Did you not appreciate my words of knowledge and wisdom? Was that it? Is there something I need to work on? Be honest Clarke. Give me the truth I am seeking. I don't appreciate that you believe I---"
"I'm not transferring."
The blonde paused mid sentence when she saw the look of relief in Lexas expression. She saw Lexas green eyes light up with hope that Clarke will stay present in her class.
"I'm simply switching to a more complicated class that can challenge me." Clarke explained.
"Clarke, there is no other history class. It's just mine. What on earth were you thinking?" Lexa demanded with a bewildered look on her face.
"I was thinking.... Oo. Yay. Extra PE class..." Clarke said hesitantly and extremely unconvincing.
Lexa rubbed her temples and looked at the paper in her hand again. "I don't even know how you got this. The school should know that you have no other history class to get transferred into. This is bizzare!" She shrieked with a loud scoff.
"Lexa, I--"
"Don't call me that."
"Well you're not my teacher anymore. There isn't any rule against it..." Clarke said with a smirk on her face.
Lexa looked up at Clarke expectantly with curiosity written on her face. Parting her lips, she spoke. "I... I'm still a teacher here, Clarke.... I want this to work. I do. I just can't." Lexa trailed off with a shaky sigh.
"Why not? Why can't you give this a shot? Give us a shot..."
"Because, Clarke! You're a student! I'm a teacher! Its against the rules, Dammit! I can get fired and get the reputation of the teacher who sleeps with her students!" By the expression of Clarke, Lexa knew that Clarke's heart might have shattered inside. Just like Lexas had when Clarke had handed her that piece of paper that led them to this conversation.
"Not even if it's true--"
"No, Clarke. Don't even say it." Lexa held up a firm hand.
"Lexa I haven't felt this way about anyone since Finn and that went to shit. I think I actually love--"
"Clarke don't make this harder for us than it already is." Lexas bottom lip trembled as she shook the paper in her hand. "Come pick this up at the end of the day. Then you'll get your transfer." With that, the brunette scurried back into the class and heard the footsteps of Clarke entering behind her.
"Take your seats."
She tossed the paper on her wooden desk which slid across the smooth surface.
"Now, I know this year nearly just begun." Lexa began, silencing each and every student. Her eyes landed on Clarke who took her place next to Octavia.
"I know that some of you are more committed to this class than others... And I know some of you are dealing with certain issues that might not be resolvable." Her eyes never left Clarke's as the class was staring at her with complete confusion.
"But that doesn't mean give up. That doesn't mean you should lose hope just yet. You're dreams will be reached soon enough. In due time..." Lexa hoped the message was getting out to Clarke without anyone knowing. Her last sentence was practically a whisper, but apparently Clarke had heard her. The expression on Clarke's face told her everything she needed to know.
"Stay strong, and keep fighting. Don't give up. Fight for what you believe in. You can win this battle."
There was a long awkward silence that Murphy had broken "What the fuck did you say that for?" He asked with confusion.
Lexa pursed her lips and broke the gaze with Clarke, turning to the board behind her. "Lets begin today's lesson."
