Almost all of my life I have danced on the same hardwood floor. However, when I went to try out for other studios, I came across Marley flooring. While it took me a couple months to get used to the different flooring, now I believe that I really prefer Marley flooring. It's more consistent and less slippery and sticky than hardwood. It also requires less risk than hardwood. One of the things that I also love is that when you land on your knee, it is way less painful.
Also, I don't think I could do contemporary with all of the rolls on hardwood floor. I mean, I tried to do a baseball slide (contemporary move) on my hardwood floor at home and I kind of scraped up my knee. Oh well, live and learn.
