"Buck?"
Steve's voice radiated nervousness as he knocked on Bucky's door. He doesn't really know what to expect with his best friend anymore.
No one answered the door. Steve had put his ear on the door to listen if anybody was inside the room. A smile slowly crept up his lips as he listened to Sinatra softly playing in the background.
"Captain Rogers, Mr. Barnes requests that he doesn't want to be bothered."
"FRIDAY, ple –"
"Specifically by you, Captain."
That broke Steve's heart. Did he really hurt him that bad?
Steve was about to leave but Tony's words echoed inside his mind. He loves his best friend, I mean, he was with him until the end of the line, right? What kind of friend is he if he left Bucky like that?
"Buck, I will not hesitate to break this door if you don't answer me."
Steve heard Sinatra shutting off and footsteps on the other side of the door. He smiled. Maybe Bucky forgave him already?
The door opened, revealing a sad and red-eyed James Buchanan Barnes. Once again, Steve's heart broke.
"What do you want?" Bucky asked, his voice noticeably hoarse. He was holding his own YouPad, Steve looked closely and it showed that Bucky had paused Sinatra from playing.
"I – I want to apologize."
Bucky stepped aside and let his best friend enter his room. He wasn't going to be a dick and ignore his friend forever. Three days was enough.
When Steve stepped inside, he noticed how Bucky's laptop and YouPhone were on his bed. How did he manage to operate such things at the same time?
"You know, if you're going to apologize, do it now instead of staring at my laptop and phone confused." Steve grew red at Bucky's statement and went to sit at a chair nearby while Bucky sat on the edge of his bed, looking at Steve.
"Well?"
"Buck, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you by hanging out with Tony. He was just helping me with technology and I'm grateful for it, but I didn't realize I was neglecting you in the process. I didn't mean that, Buddy, and I'm sorry." Steve's voice was sincere and Bucky realized he missed his best friend so much.
"I understand, Steve. I was overreacting anyways. I understand even though Tony's a douchebag sometimes, he can have a heart."
"Well, he did urge me to apologize because I was afraid to approach you."
Bucky was surprised at his statement. "Please don't be afraid of me." Bucky's voice was suddenly filled with sorrow as the thought of his best friend being afraid of him slowly killed him inside.
"I'm not, Buck. I'm with you 'til the end of the line, remember that. Plus, I had to search the internet on how to get back with your best friend. Results weren't really pleasing."
Bucky chuckled at his best friend's response. "Thank God for internet."
Steve shrugged. "Internet, so helpful. Scarring, but helpful."
After a few moments, silence engulfed them.
"Best friends?" Steve asked while looking at Bucky, who was smiling.
"Best friends." Bucky replied, while standing up and hugging Steve.
Both were laughing because finally, Stucky is back.
Before Bucky let go, he swore he heard Steve whisper, "I love you, Buck. I'm with you 'til the end of the line."
