Steven's P.O.V
Four days. Four whole days, she's been laying there. Just laying there. With no response to anything. If she doesn't was up in a few days, I don't know what I'll do. I hadn't been home in days. I didn't want to go that far away from her just in case something happened. That something could be absolutely anything. It could be that her hand moved or her blood pressure went down by 2. I didn't care, I just wanted to be with her.Emily soon arrived that morning. It must have been around eight, since everyday at that time the same nurse checked on Lauren. It was the same nurse with the same enthusiastic smile everyday. The thing is, I knew her from somewhere. She looked so familiar but yet so queer. I'm sure I've seen her around before or even met her. Maybe she was...
"STEVEN!" Emily raised her voice as she clapped her hands in front of my face.
"Huh? What? What's up?" I replied, not acknowledging a thing what she just said.
"Are you serious? After all that..." She sighed, obviously unhappy with the fact I heard nothing. "I said, that I was with Norman this morning and he said the cast had been asking how you were and how Lauren was."
"Ok? And?" I said not knowing what the point to the story was.
"And I thought that you could go talk to them and that. You know, like actually communicate with other people than me, the nurse and Lauren. it would be good if you talk to the others even if it's just for half an hour. At least it will be something, hopefully."
"I'd rather not. Tell them I'll see them soon and that they can put there minds at rest and stop the worry." I replied. The idea of talking to the others just wasn't something I'd like to do, at the moment.
"Come on, Steve." She was really trying to make me talk to them but I simply didn't want too.
"No. I'm not talking to them. Not yet, anyway." I still wasn't budging on the idea causing Emily to sigh.
"Fine. But, if you're not going you can go home and take a shower and change and that, at least."
"I can't. It's too far away. It takes around 45 minutes just to get there. That's way too long to leave her for. Think about it, 45 minutes getting there, around an hour to get a shower and get dressed then another 45 minutes to to come back. Not happening"
"Ok... I know! Why don't you go to my place? It's a five minute drive, no ones there and you can borrow some of Norman's clothes. So take my keys, go to my flat, and clean yourself up. Seriously, if you don't get a shower soon I think I'll pass out" Emily joked and passed me her keys. As I chuckled at her joke I made my way over to the door.
"Thanks, Em" I said before I left.
I knew where Emily's flat was from the amount of times that I've visited with Lauren. I pulled up, walked in the building then up to her flat. I strolled in as I looked around to see she was right. No one was here. I locked the door and immediately went to the bathroom and got a shower. It took me around 15 minutes to take a shower then about 5 to throw some clothes on. I walked around the flat until I found the bookshelf. Surprisingly, there were not many books on the bookshelf. It was mostly photo albums labelled with sticky notes. I found one that made me smile widely. In careful, neat, pretty writing, he label read "best friends". I open it up to see may pictures of me, Lauren, Emily and Norman. There were a few others but I was mostly just us four. I looked through most of the pictures making me smile more and more as I see all of us smiling in various photos. After a while, I placed the album back where I found it and continued to walk around. As I was walking on the cold wooden floor, something caught my eye. I walked over to it and picked up in my warm hands. Thinking for awhile, I stared at the object as I ran to the door, aggressively shoved my shoes on and ran out the door, closing it behind me.
As I ran down the halls of the hospital, I got shouted at numerous times to stop. But I couldn't. I eventually got to Lauren's room as I ran in and sat back down.
"Woah, Steve what's got into you?" Emily asked me worriedly.
I said nothing. I just placed the object on the bedside table.
A photo frame.
Of me, Lauren, Emily and Norman.
I wanted it to be there. We all looked so happy. I wanted her to know that if we aren't there physically she's got the photo."Lauren? I just want you to know that... We're always here. Just wanted you to know that. But I really need you to do something for me...
Please wake up"
