Lauren's P.O.V
"He needs to calm down... did you tell him how panicking makes things worse? If he panics, they panic. First rule of having a baby. Don't panic. Even though it's hard." Alanna noted from the couch holding Nova, as I walked up to her.
"Yeah... Alanna's right. If he's scared, the kid will know. Babies are quite intelligent if you think about it." Emily also noted as she held Adeline in her arms, on the one-seat couch.
"Yes, I told him that. He just continued to panic. Said he "can't do it" when he hasn't even tried for long. He's fine with them when I'm around. Not on his own." I sighed, falling onto the couch next to Alanna and my son.
"Well... I think he needs to get used to it. Think about it, he currently doesn't have a job. He's looking for one, right?" Alanna commented, I nodded.
"Right. And you're gonna be working from six in the morning, till maybe twelve at night. Or even later. Because that's what our job consists of. So he's gotta do something about it. I get that it can be hard, I've been through it, and I'm sure it's harder with twins, but it's even harder when you don't put 100% in. So, just tell him that. Tell him to try. And I know he's a sweet guy and he'd do anything for you three, but seriously, sometimes he can give up so easily." She finished."Yeah... I've noticed." I mumbled, leaning over and stroking my child's cheek.
"Do you think... it all happened too fast?" I asked both of them, looking between the two women in my living room."What do you mean by "too fast", hon?" Emily asked, looking at me with curiosity.
"Like... we were barely going out before I got pregnant... I know we knew each other for years before but... I can't help thinking that... if we just stopped and thought about the situation for a moment..." I sighed, not knowing where I was going with the sentence. "Never mind... I wouldn't change these little ones for the world... but I just wish we waited a little bit longer... we've been so busy lately... that we haven't had time to have a good chat, he's been trying to ask me something for over a month now. We're supposed to be going away this weekend... two days! With the kids and work... I doubt we're gonna have time to pack... I just... I don't know. I wish things had waited for a while longer I guess..."
"I can take the twins... Marlowe loves them! Plus, me and Emily can take them to the park... keep them occupied while you have the weekend away." Alanna smiled, placing a hand on my shoulder.
"You'd do that?.."
"Of course! Wouldn't we em?" She smiled towards Emily, who slowly made her way over and sat next to me.
"Of course we would. There's no doubt about it." She smiled.
"Okay... okay, fine, thank you. But you gotta be careful of what they have, certain things can upset their stomachs if-"
"Lauren. I'm sure you'll write it all down for us."
I laugh lightly, "I guess so... you'd really do that for me? Well... for us?"
"Yes! Now why don't you gather their things and we'll take them now." Alanna said with a smile, "unless you have something else to talk about?"
My searched my mind for anything that I needed to get off my chest, anything that had been bothering me. I then turned to Emily, "do... do you know what he's been trying to ask me?"
Emily's face became a light shade of red as she stuttered, "uh-uh I don't.. I don't think... no I don't think so..."
"Em. Seriously. If it's something important I need to know... is it to do with me?" I looked her in the eyes, knowing that she could never refuse telling the truth if we had eye contact.
She slowly nodded, before looking down at the baby.
"Wow Em you really can't keep a secret." Stevens voice appeared from behind, making us all jump.
"Jesus fu- Steve!" Alanna spluttered, putting a hand on her chest.
"How long have you been standing there?" Emily asked, completely ignoring what he first said.
"A while... I couldn't find my keys outside then I heard you guys talking."
"Oh... well, I'm gonna go pack the twins' bags..." I mumbled, making up an excuse to leave the awkward situation. Before I left I placed a kiss on Nova's and Addy's head, making my way upstairs soon after.
"I'll help." Steven said enthusiastically. To the girls, he was acting normal, to me, I knew it was just an act by the way he looks at me. His eyes straight at mine. I couldn't work out what he was thinking, but, I had a feeling i already knew.
"So... I need to calm down do I?" Steven mumbled after around twenty minutes in silence, while packing for the twins for their nights away.
"W-what?" I stuttered, slowly looking up at him.
"I heard it Laur... I heard it all. Don't try and say you didn't say it..." he almost whispered.
"I didn't mean- I mean- it wasn't like- ugh, I just..."
"You're just sick of me panicking? Right? And 'making things worse'? Yeah?"
"No! I-"
"Then why didn't you tell Alanna that?" He suddenly became monotone, meaning I couldn't hear the emotions in his voice.
I couldn't move, I just stayed silent. I didn't know what to do. Until he took a step closer.
"So?" He raised his voice slightly, the emotions finally seeping into his voice, the anger, sadness, pain showing. This was something I hadn't seen before, and it honestly scared me slightly.
He took another step closer, only for me to take a step away. Then, when he took another step closer, I turned my head slightly to the side, and closed my eyes.
"I'm sorry..." he whispered before walking out.
