chapter sixty nine

Lauren's P.O.V
"No make sure it's clean!" I shouted to Steven from the other side of Emily's apartment, as we were still staying until Addy could come home.

Which was today.

"Lauren it's as clean as can be! Disinfectant isn't even this clean!" He shouted back, more annoyed than angry and loud, which just made me sigh.
I was stressed to say the least. I wanted her to stay healthy.
I don't want her back in that incubator. So, I'll be damned if I let that happen.

My hands found my hair as I pulled on it slightly, starting to pace around the room.

"Lauren. She's gonna be fine. And we're taking her home soon anyway. So, calm down..." Steven lowered his voice, one that was laced with care as he wrapped his arms around me, pulling me against his chest. "Nothing's gonna happen."

"Promise?" I whispered, trying my best not to cry from stress.

"Cross my heart and hope to die." He replied, leaning in to kiss my forehead but before he could I looked up and placed a hand on his cheek.

"I hope you don't die..." I mumbled as I pulled him in and planted my lips on his.

My leg shook nervously as I waited for the nurse to call us, in the waiting room, waiting for my child. I saw Steven place a hand on my leg, as in to say "it's okay", which I responded with placing my hand on his.

"You know that its gonna be okay, right? We're gonna take Addy back to Emily's, stay there for a few days, then we can go home. To our home. And, I promise you that I will always be here, for you and the twins okay? because I love you. A lot. and I've been trying to ask you something important for... quite a while and everything keeps pushing it back so-"

"Adeline Yeun?" My head shot up as a young woman called my daughters name, completely forgetting that Steven was still taking. "if you'd like to follow me."

I stood up with passion, wanting to hold my young sweetheart in my arms for longer than just a few hours at the hospital. "Steve c'mon."

"Coming..."

"Look Addy... this is your aunt Emily's apartment..." I whispered to the child in my arms. "She's very excited to meet you honey... she's out right now, but I promise she'll be back soon, along with your brother."

From behind, I heard Steven enter while carrying the car seat in. As he walked past, a saw him smile at the both of us, I returned the favour and smiled back. He placed the car seat down and kissed Addy's head, then kissed mine.

"See? I never break a promise." He smiled.

I giggled before I continued the small "tour" for Addy.
But soon, the tour stopped as I sat on the sofa, cradling her in my arms, as I soon became tired. After around thirty minutes, Steven joined us.

"Hey babe... she okay?" He smiled as I nodded, leaning on him when he sits down. "Good, are you okay?" He asked, looking at me with a slightly worried look.

"Yes... imperfectly fine." I whispered, leaning up then placing a kiss on his cheek. "I don't think I could be better in this moment in time."

"I'm back with Nova!" I heard the friendly sweet voice of Emily enter the room then a small gasp. "She's here??" She smiled as she walked over and and placed Nova in Steven's arms.

She then reached her arms out and said, "Can I...?"

"Of course... just be careful..." I mumbled as I passed her over.

"Well, I'm not exactly going to drop her." She chuckled.

"I'll go put Nova to bed." Steven mumbled, taking Nova to our room with the cot.

"So..." Emily smirked.

"So what?"

"Did you and Steve talk?" She continued to smirk, making me confused.

"Um... well we don't exactly sit in silence?" I chuckled nervously, "talked about what?"

"Oh nothing... I was just talking to him in the hospital while you were with Adeline..." she said as she looked down to my daughter in her arms, "he seems... I don't know.. committed, so to speak..."

"Well, he should do... we have two kids for crying out loud." I chuckled again, less nervous this time, but still curious.

"No, not in that way. I mean-"

"He's out like a light." Steven smiled as he walked back into the room with the baby monitor in his hand, clearly happy about how he put our son to sleep for the first time. I smiled as he sat next to me, laying an arm around me shoulders and gently pulling me closer to place a loving kiss on my forehead.

"That's good..." I smiled.

"You know what... I'm gonna take Adeline to the room yeah? show her it, get her used to it. And you two.. can talk." She grinned, soon walking out.

I chuckled, "what's up with her?"

Steven suddenly looked nervous, but played it off as a forced chuckled. "No idea."

"Before you came in she was saying how you two were talking in the hospital, talking about commitment, what do you mean by commitment? I said 'well we have two kids' but she said no. And that it's in a different way. But you walked in before she could say something... Steve, what's going on?" I sat up and turned to him, not liking secrets between us.

"Laur, don't get yourself worked up, okay? It's nothing serious. We were just talking about how close we are, and the amount of time with been together, you know?" I replied, the nervousness laced in his voice.

I nodded, "okay... sure."

He leaned in and hugged me close, hiding his face in the crook of my neck. I did the same, but instead of hiding my face, I kissed his cheek. This made him pull away slightly, only to place his lips on mine, in a slow but loving kiss. It didn't seem to get deeper or faster, nor did it become heated, it stayed at a steadily slow pace which kept it meaningful.

"I don't think you realise how much I adore you..." he whispered against my lips, his hot breath could be felt as he was only millimetres away from kissing me was again.

"I think I do... because I feel the exact same way."
